8x4, it's a Bose 800. Tons of data on the net..

Actually doesn't sound half bad, unless you close mic it (terrible). Apparently they like a lot of power but they benefit from an EQ compensation curve that doesn't sound good on other cabs and the thing just spews mids when I hook it up to a big amp (I'm too much of a pussy to employ the massive bass boost they apparently need for volume, because since I have another one that is full of busted speakers I consider them somewhat fragile). 12 watts sounds OK though, especially paired with something else.

Trying to get more involved in the ILF community instead of only posting on B/S/T, so I figured I'd post this. I picked up this beauty yesterday! 1969 (I think) blue line Ampeg B25. These things were meant for bass, but at only 50ish watts, they're better suited for guitar. It rips! The seller was pretty sketchy and I've tried to buy the amp from him multiple times over the past year, but he always flaked out. He even started flat out ignoring me once, so I emailed him from my band's email account and he responded... The deal eventually fell though (again), so I thought I had lost my chance for good that time. I was wrong, though. I'm glad I ended up with it!

That's kind of weird about the seller, but worth it for that amp.

Couldn't agree more! It sounds amazing when the channels jumped. I want to run this and my YBA-1A in stereo just to see how they compare. I know the YBA-1A is based on the Bassman platform, and the controls on the Ampeg lead me to believe that the same might be true for the B25. I could be wrong, though.

So I posted here about a year ago, maybe more, when I first got my '79 Vibrolux Reverb. But since completely overhauling it, it's like a brand new amp.

The first thing I did was replace the filter caps. It was strange, because when I opened it the first two on the left were new, but the other three dated to 78. I replaced all of them.

Next was the circuit board. I blackfaced the circuit, replaced all the electrolytic caps, replaced the coupling caps with Mallory 150s, and revoiced the normal channel to be more tweed like.

I also rewired the bright switch to be a boost switch, via the big ass green cap.

I had to replace the reverb transformer, which apparently isn't too common, but after replacing the tank, testing the cords and all the circuit components, its all that was left, and sure enough, the primary was open.

I replaced the RCA jacks for the reverb and tremelo pedal with 1/4", just because I like them better.

For speakers, it had the stock oxfords, and I put in a set of WGS G10C's.

And just for asthetics, I replaced the red jewel with a blue one. I also got rid of the pull push volume knob in favor of a standard one, and removed the entire boost circuit.

I spent about a month and a half in all, but the overhaul was so worth it. I learned a ton, and it sounds glorious. I made an A/B box today for channel switching, which is awesome. I may go back in and add middle controls for each channel, and am still debating on reverb in both channels.

I did some reworking on the YBA-3.

Some better caps, more resistor upgrades, proper clips for the 80uF's, and moved to 6550's. I also scoped the PI, and set it at even balance.

Verdict: True love. The headroom is incredible, and so is the tone. Tried it at volume tonight with a BMP, but didn't (couldn't) go past 6 on the volume. I thought I was going to poop my pants.

I got a new guitar cab to pair with Mr. Grumpy. A 6x12 from Atlas Cabinets, loaded with Warehouse ET65 and ET90 speakers. Sounds great and crazy loud.

I have no clue and I'll probably never know. I had him make it with tiltback hardware and casters, like a bass cab. I haven't loaded it up yet, just moved it on the casters. It feels pretty close to my Ampeg 810.
