I went to college in Vermont and so I will always be a homer for those beers, but they are phenomenal. I don't know what Aussie's beer scene is like, to be honest, but a great, fresh IPA will always blow me away. It's probably not worth it to have someone ship a volatile beer like that across the ocean if you have really good, and FRESH beer available to you now, but if you ever come to the US, hitting up some brewpubs is totally worth it.

Fresh Heady is unreal, I will say. Pretty much every great beer is overhyped and arguably overrated to some extent, because people like what they like (a lot of people on the beeradvocate and ratebeer like either SUPER HOPPY or SUPER SWEET or CRRRAZZZZY SOUR, and then momentum takes over when a beer starts getting high ratings, sometimes due to rarity/trade value), but it IS probably my favorite beer, because the combination of dank, fresh nose with the citrus and tropical flavor is pretty much my dream IPA. For an 8% DIPA it's amazingly light, drinkable, and not bitter, per se, but still that satisfying resinous sensation, but it's more tangerine-flavored than straight tongue-punishing bitterness.

Second Fiddle is creeping up on it, though. First time I've had SF fresh, and that beer is incredible. It's super dank, too, but then it tastes like papaya and melon.

VT is producing these crazy good IPAs (it's something in the water. no, really) that every time I have one it is undeniably head and shoulders better than 99% of the competition, but almost everywhere you go in the US now, there's a readily available, fresh, delicious IPA that you don't need to go crazy trying to track down the best of the best stuff, really.

I think that I ranted in the past about being kind of underwhelmed by DFH 90 Minute, just because it's been talked up so much. It's still a great beer, but Santo Palo is absolutely Dogfish's best year-round Brew. I think that my go-to Craft Beer store has gotten better with fresher US beers so I'm kind of confident with my own tastes. I'm pretty used to New Zealand craft which makes some pretty out there stuff and produces their own Hops. Australia is still slowly improving, there's some good stuff out there but it's just expensive. High Tax for everyone.

On a related note, I just bought myself a case of Sixpoint Resin. Hop Juice.

Sippin on a Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar right now and it is DELISH. Possibly my favorite beer at the moment. And a new hipster bar just opened in town that serves them. The restaurant/bar I work at just got the Chocolate Stout and I'm trying to talk my boss into serving this, but we don't have enough beer drinkers around here.

Tried a creme brulee stout the other night that was pretty great. Tasted like a white Russian.

I'm poor and sad, so, I'm on a tour of cheap beer. Last week was high-gravity Steel Reserve, this week is Coors Banquet. Steel Reserve seems like a "fuck this day" kind of beer. Coors Banquet is pretty tasty, it tastes like what PBR wished it tasted like.

It's the champagne of beers!

also I have found that when given the choice between a decent canned beer and a very good bottled beer at like a 24 hour gas station the canned beer can be a better bet because Light hasn't ruined it and it probably hasn't sat their as long

plus, rockcitykicks sent me a can coozie with my asics

It's funny you mention 90 Minute. That's a classic beer and by all means was one of the gateway beers for me to get into craft beer, but it's super East Coast-style malty IPA and doesn't stand up to the test of time very well with what practices are well-regarded or frequently used now. A lot of the great IPAs these days are either super balanced (Pliny, though an older recipe, is one of the best examples: neither overly malty/sweet OR bitter, just hop flavor with a bit of malt) or explosively hop forward (Heady is a good example this, even though it's not overwhelmingly bitter at all and you get a bit of caramel malt as it starts to warm).

Also I bet New Zealand IPAs are awesome, as Australian and NZ hops are getting to be HUGE in American craft. Galaxy and Nelson Sauvin are a couple of my favorite varieties.

Loooooove Wicked Weed. So fucking good. Genesis and Serenity are mindblowing when the bottles aren't fucked up. I've had a couple bad quality issues from them, but all the bottles I've had recently with friends were good, including some Black Angel this last weekend that was ON POINT. The food at the brewpub is also amazing and that was one of the most pleasant experiences I've had at a restaurant - waitress was super helpful, friendly, and had just the right recommendations for food and beer.

Going to Chicago this weekend for my bachelor party. Lots of Half Acre, Three Floyds, and Revolution on deck :yay:

Blegh, I hate Nelson Sauvin hops, it's so bitter, has no fruit and tastes almost soapy, had a Waimea IPA that was pretty good though, also on the green side of things but luckily without the soapy aftertaste.

I love Nelson. I don't really find it bittery at all. One of my favorite DIPA is 100% Nelson and its dank, smooth and delicious.

The new brewery that opened up down the road from me is releasing a new DIPA that is a Citra/Nelson combo. Pretty excited as they are my two favorite hops!

Maybe lots of cara malt in there to counter the Nelson then, I dunno.
Amarillo, Citra, Sorachi Ace and Waimea are my favourites so far, plus those organic malts from Rogue deserve some special mention as well..

I dunno, I don't get a lot of bitterness from Alpine Nelson, but that's a supremely well balanced beer. Just a lot of dank notes, juicy flavor.

Sours and brett beers dryhopped with Nelson are so fuckin good, like Prairie Merica. Delicious. Generally for IPAs I'm partial to Citra, Galaxy, and Amarillo, along with Simcoe and Mosaic, but a well done Nelson IPA is awesome.

Needs a bump.

Old Rasputin still remains to be the best valued Imperial Stout in a new world, full of wanky Imperial Stouts. It's just a shame that a 4 pack costs $30 here. Though you can always get Narwhal for that extra 1.2% abv. :idk:

I think I should be leaning more into Whisky. Atleast then, there less of a chance of things being marked up in price for no real reason. The combination of everything already super expensive in Australia and Craft Beer naturally being pretty pricey, i'm not going to buy much more specialty beer for a while.

 $30 for a 4 pack of old rasputin? I feel for you. the other day I came across a store that failed to price their brew accordingly so I was getting 6 packs of Stone IPA for $5  I've recently been drinking a shit load of Hennessy VS craft beers tho cause my tolerance has been through the fucking roof lately (it tastes so gooood)
i'm glad i can call you a friend. even if i'll never see you again
