Dropping in to say I had a fucking gold plated titties jam session with the drummer from the local band CFA and his friend last night. Threw down some Kyuss/Fu Manchu hybrid type riffs and it was fucking awesome. Hands down the most fun & productive jam session I've had since Flux. Planning on doing it again next week. I could see this going somewhere!

Rad! Reno's just about the hardest hitter in the world. That must've been a blast. I hope we get to hear something soon!

In other news, The new Windhand is boring me to tears. Quite a few 'doom' bands are plagued by The Doom Problem but they've got it real bad when it comes to the recorded output (they're more interesting live on stage). In case you don't know what I'm talking about, I mean to say they're big, they're loud, they're heavy, they got tone BUT, they just don't rock. I WANNA ROCK

Dude, it was insane. Reno and I locked in immediately. It was really something special. And you're not kidding! He is a monster!

I can get behind that,, sort of -- Depends on the band. Quite happy to zone out and nod off, too. Since they've been on rotation all day, I'd say Bongzilla does a good job of straddling that line without just sort of getting ponderous and boring.

I'm listening to the new singles that they've been trickling out and they're okay. Not anything extraordinary. I really do like their first two albums, though, so maybe they'll grow on me.

I can agree for the most part with using that band as an example of a 'stock' doom band that usually transcends the problem. I guess for me distorted guitar music is music of action. If I'm going for relaxation or zoning out I prefer something without amplified guitars. But that's just me :0)

I'm looking forward to hearing where this might be going. :doom:

Regarding Sabb: I bought a ticket to see them based on Bill being in the lineup last time they came down here. Then they announced he was out and I was pretty disappointed.
However, they were still awesome. And seriously, they were on it.
I'm tossing up whether or not to shell out for this tour, just to see Tony and Geezer do their thing again.
$150 is lotsa money right now though.

Regarding new Windhand: I will be holding my opinion until I've heared the whole record and spent some time with it.
I will concede that I was a bit disappointed with the production sound on some of the streaming tracks, but then I listened to a youtube official video thing and it sounded betterer.
It's Endino, so it can't suck, right?

I don't think the production on the new Windhand is any worse than on Soma, for whatever that's worth.

Hung out with LOCO last night after the aforementioned jam. Really cool to see him that pumped up about a potential project. Reno's a badass and that's a solid way to kick things off.

On the subject of DOOM formula. If you try to use one, it will suck.
Low and slow all the time is boring.
Non Stop overly frenetic shit is equally boring.
Change, suspense, surprise, pauses, sprints, dynamics are where it's at, although I am sure there are a few bands that change things way to often, and are boring as a result.
don't be boring, D wants to ROCK!

Im with D on this, the first 2 albums were good...but the third is just more of the same and nothing about it really grips me.

Im also not thay into the new elder album either...not sure what it is, but it does nothing for me.

Sabbath...i complain, but i will go...never seen them live, for various reasons...and the last chance to see Iommi on stage, yeah ill cough up the cash for it. To me Dio Sabbath was a different band to Ozzy Sabbath and i like both...i dont even compare them

You crazy.

What night is that rolling through Sydney Town?
I coughed up $60 for that show to go on a Monday night, while we're on the subject of ticket prices.

Earthless are rad live though, so I don't mind.

Sabbath isn't coming within hundreds of miles, which means I won't ever get to see them. Kinda bummed about that, but not sure I'd shell out that amount to see them (minus Ward at least).

Yeah the drummer they dragged in from Rob Zombie's band or wherever did a good job, but had this huge massive wank-off solo break when the old farts went off for an oxygen break.

Don't even think I'm kidding about any of that for a second.

i think they come to sydney on the 23rd...but i remember seeing that they may play 2 nights in sydney as the Newtown venue was almost sold out...

isnt Tym's having Earthless play in store or something? that would be cool!

was talking to band mate about recording our first album...which could be early next year...we were both really considering heading to brisbane and doing it at Tym's...would be a cool experience!
