Pretty stoked to see them when I'm in Phoenix next month.

But this is a really subjective argument with credence to both sides...

They were more consistent and easier to follow, I'll concede to that. Wowee Zowee is the only must-have Pavement album for me, though I like most of their stuff. They toured together:

Jennifer: “Steve liked to think we had so much in common but I think we frightened a lot of their audience. Basically we had Pavement’s dressing room to ourselves every night because they were so freaked out over what we might be doing. I was like “Yeah, just stay on the bus.””

Me neither. I know Pavement forwards and backwards.

Royal Trux were great and I knew that they toured together. Rob Sheffield wrote about that tour in Love Is A Mixtape (corny title, best music book ever written, swear to God). He had positive things to say about both. Ultimately my personal opinion is, they were both great, but for me, Pavement were doing something no other band from that era was. Can't quite put my finger on it. Probably their ability to be sly and ironic on the surface, but with a completely earnest, mushball of a heart under the veneer. Not sure. People will say Royal Trux, people will say Bitch Magnet, people will say pretty much every post-Nirvana indie band, and I respect those bands, but my vote goes to them.

The funny thing is, weed_killer, you're saying Wowee Zowee is the best one, and it's actually not my favourite! For me it goes Brighten The Corners > Crooked Rain > Slanted & Enchanted > tie for Terror Twilight and Wowee Zowee, and I know exactly why, too: I like the angular, punchy stuff and WZ is their loose, jazzy record. Plus that shameless "Dancing Days" ripoff, amirite? The deluxe edition of Brighten The Corners is my choice for indispensable Pavement album

D.o.S., after you sold me on The Minutemen, that was the thing I fell in love with the most, how angular and choppy D. Boone's playing is. I hear a lot of Minutemen in Pavement now...

kbit, I guess I should thank you for introducing me to some truly annoying music that represents everything I hate about about experimental/jazz. FET.NAT is absolutely among the grossest bands I have ever heard, hands down.

Thank you.

 that's cool man. Not my favorite album of theirs, but you probably wouldn't like the other one either. Their grossness is part of the attraction for me.

They're connected to the dude who runs Fairfield Electronics. I think his brother is in the band?

Aight, yes I saw they had a picture of a Fairfield pedal on their feighbook pg. I did really check 'em out! Definitely not for me, but I do appreciate hearing stuff I would never seek out myself from time to time. It's inspiring in a different kinda way than hearing music that I could imagine myself playing or whatever. All good bro, I limited my exposure so I wasn't too traumatized!
