Deals are definitely hard to come by. Usually if I see anything at a decent price anymore I automatically wonder if it's stolen I think the guy that sold me the VT-22 thought he was actually getting one over on me because he told me it powered up and played fine but would need to see a tech real soon. It wasn't until I drove the hour to check it out that he started the whole "it's probably only good for parts" business and I found out it was blowing fuses. Joke's on him now.
I think i've seen that one hanging around on craigslist for awhile, that's awesome that it worked out! I would have been checking it out but I can't really play a loud amp in my apartment
Finally went through and replaced anything that drifted out of value or just needed replacing in the preamp of the SVT and it sounds a hell of a lot better! No more crackling or shitty fuzz in channel two anymore! Still need to do a little work in the Poweramp, but it is pretty hum free and can get awesomely loud. Now I get to do some tube rolling and get a new 6C4, as this one is microphonic as hell.
I got a VT-22 for $300 with old Altec Lansing speakers. Needed work which I did myself - filter caps, replaced almost all the other capacitors, screen/grid resistors, tubes. It sounded so good. It's one amp I regret selling.
