Here's a pic of it next to my Acoustic ported 18 for size comparison.

I'll give you $200 plus shipping for the 5150. Double your profits, man.

I had a really shitty gear night. Nothing was sounding right to me. One cab acting a fool. Then used a spare cab. Sounded boomy and sloppy as fuck. Literally just threw all the switches to off and stopped playing. I need a day to just sit down and go tone hunting. Fuck.

I'll probably hit you up about it. This head was used by both guitarists in a old band of mine so I bought it for the sentimental value of it but I know that since I'll never gig with it I'll begin to feel like it is just taking up space so I'll get rid of it. Messed with it last night and the lead gain pot needs replacing since it will spin all the way around. Still works, but I'll replace it anyway and get some knobs for it too.

I feel the same way with my tone sometimes. Sometimes its my ears, and sometimes its my gear. The last practice before our last show I felt like my Matamp was getting all farty in the low end and it was just sounding horrible. I figured the power tubes were needing to be replaced since it has been a while since I've owned it and never replaced the power tubes in it. Swapped them out for a set of spare Sovtek EL34s and realized the ones in it were JJ EL34L instead of regular EL34. Crunk it back up after the swap and it sounded better but soon after one of the tubes began to red plate. Are the bias set different or is it that my spare set had a tube that was going bad in it?

Dude. I would be more than happy to take that off your hands if you're not feeling it. I feel like I'm on the hunt for something. I thought having the Coven would solve all my dirt woes. Been playing my buddies' 5150 and I'm kinda feeling it. Who knows.

The Coven would sound great through it. I was messing around with it today with my Pharaoh and Witchburner and after a little bit of tube rolling I got it dialed in really close to my Soldano. The guys from Thou use a 5150 and get huge tone from it but I don't know if they are using the amp alone or using pedals for their dirt.

I don't recall them using anything in front of it but it was for their set with the Body so I don't remember as clearly. I totally forgot that Thou used 5150s and suddenly my gas increases.

I feel like we've been over this 5150 thing before and evertime we do we basically arrive at the some love it, others hate it camp.
I still think they're rad.

Usually they just use straight amp distortion (guys in thou) they like to keep it massively simple.

5150 is best if you use it's distortion, don't use it as a pedal platform.

If I procure one, Conky's or otherwise, I doubt that I'd use my dirt with it.

You need to be running a Klon into that $100 5150 to get the most transparent crushing tones from it.

I tried 5150 as a trade for my ironheart...thinking back now i should have done the trade cause it was really good. The dirt was great and clean was fine. But i think i still would have ended up with my current amps.

The only peavey i havent liked is the valve king royal 8...that was a piece of shit combo anp. The bigger valve kings are great...especially for the money and if you jump the fx loop.

Yeah I had a first generation VK100 head. The dirt needed an eq in the loop to make it ok. The clean channel was surprisingly good.
Had the Black Forest been invented when I owned it I may not have sold it as those two would play real nice together, I imagine.
It had tube issues from factory though, which I'm not sure now as to whether or not they could have been attributed to dud tubes or something on board, but either way, it occurred within my 60 tube warranty and the Peavey rep tried everything to shaft me out of a warranty repair.
Even the store I bought it from were like, "dude, this shouldn't redplate weeks after you took the fucker out of the box. Give the guy his warranty."
So fuck Peavey customer support. Or, at least, that guy.

Thats a shame pope...I almost bought a VK50 combo and the sales rep actually jumped the eq to show me how
much better it sounded. But i was intent to buy a small 5w head and can at the time.

Not sure why but i have been thinking of getting a 2 channel amp...and im thinking of getting an orange thunderverb 200...and maybe trading my marshall for it...Im sure its a fleeting thought though!

You guys are playing low down, right?
You could probably justify the 200, but is it going to do a perceptibly better job than the superbass in most settings.
Plus I'm willing to put dollars on the fact that when you go to record, you're gonna want that Marshall there.
