I got a question for anyone here: Due to budget reasons I'm having to scale back on some things, like all the extra meat I had been eating.... I'm trying to get more protein from cheaper sources, as I can't afford to stuff down as much meat and digestive enzymes right now, so I've been eating more lentils and buckwheat, and I'm going to cook some adzuki beans tonight.
I can't do any milk products (so no butter or whey) or wheat/gluten stuff. I DO eat eggs. Four every morning.
My concerns mostly come from the fact that I feel better on lower carbs, but all the food-based protein sources (that aren't meat) come with a lot of carbs.... Am I doomed to having to use shakes? I'm also not going vegetarian, but I have to stretch out my budget more and more....and meat adds up quick, especially since I only buy good stuff (no GMO, antibiotics, etc) And I feel weird eating so much nut butter haha.
Thoughts or suggestions?

The GMO thing is super hard to avoid, especially since they still don't have to fucking label shit.

So annoying.
So I eat a lot of chicken. You have to shop sales sometimes. But you can find chicken for pretty damn cheap most times. The thing killing my budget right now is beef. I have to have lean beef every night right now. That shit is expensive. Fucking ridiculous seeing as how we have SOOOOOOOOOO much of it in the USA. Food is a scam just like any other market. It's sad.
I also feel better with lower carbs. If I'm under 200 a day, I feel great. 100 a day I feel great as well. 20 I feel like shit. I mean grams of carbs. It's a delicate balance. You do need the glycogen for your brain and cells, so it's important to get enough, but you don't need as much as people say.
For you. It's possible you could get away with a mock Ketosis type diet. Higher fats, avocados, almonds, peanut butter, really any nuts, salmon, tuna, hell even oils (I'd limit your intake of oils to the good ones though. Avocado, Coconut, Macadamia, just pure ones)...etc. Higher good fat foods. Then if you're really in a pinch for money and you want to save. You can get a protein isolate that is lactose free. It's expensive, but it will probably still add up to sell than what you'd spend on actual meats. So Dymatize has one that pretty good and then there's another brand I can't recall right now. But it's like 25 grams of protein per scoop. It cost about 80 bucks for 5lbs. Obviously you're not going to want to ONLY have that, but with eggs, fats, and shake, I think you'd be set. You could make that 80 dollar tub last a month. They generally are 60 servings or less. I'd only do a shake a day and get the rest from fats and egg/egg whites.
What will kill your budget, which is sad as hell. Buying organic. Buying things labeled non GMO. Buying things that are labeled cage free.
Suggestions on getting more for you dollar.
Go to a farmers market if you have access to one. This can make a HUGE difference. Some of the people at the farmers markets are fucking awesome and will give you just the best deals ever. They generally have WAY better stuff too.
I get my eggs from an Amish dude and they cost 2 bucks a carton for basically organic, farm raised, and cage free eggs. You can't beat that. Sometimes they are 1.50 a carton! Best fucking eggs ever too.
Hope what I'm saying makes sense and helps a little? It's early. lol
