Emotional Mugger? Thoughts? Not as immediate, that's for sure.
I'm admittedly not super familiar with Ty's catalog, but I did just see them play last night and they played Emotional Mugger as like half their set. I do know what you mean by not as immediate, but I really like how playful it is. &here's some cool rhythmic stuff going on in a lot of the songs. My favorite of their set was actually "The Magazine", that super laid back track at the end. It felt so good to hear that groove played real loud.
EDIT: after listening to some EM tracks again, I definitely preferred that material live. Ty sounds more restrained on the record, where as live he's kinda going nutso.
Considering how great Manipulator is, EM ain't bad at all. I too like Ty's playfulness. He borders on just plain bizarre at times.
Went digging thru mom's CDs yesterday, pulled out like 30. Got "Madman Across the Water" by Elton John on now. Do I lose my cool guy noise rock/doom street cred for this?
But no, it's been a few years since I've given Elton John's stuff a proper listen, so I'm kinda happy right now. Was listening to Kiss yesterday, and I pulled out some Elvis too (used to hear him a lot when I was a little kid, so it brings back some memories)
Got Kiss Symphony (Alive IV) in now. I was such a nerdy little shit with them when I was like 11-12. I has action figures, all their 70s albums, all the Alive albums, etc.
I'd like to see Elton live I think. Used to hear him, Billy Joel, and Meatloaf a lot when I would go places with my mom. I must have listened to Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and Bat Out Of Hell like 100 times while in the car with my mom. Lots of Queen too.
