Re: The Health, Wellness, weight loss, and fitness thread
When you say "sick" what do you mean? Everyone reacts differently to exercise, especially if you haven't done it in a very long time or ever. I've seen guys throw up, collapse, and pass out from stuff that was just the easiest thing in the world to me. But you have to slowly condition your body to take on the load. So if you're hitting it too hard, too fast, you're going to crash and burn. It's the way way 90% of people fail and give up on exercise. I've had sooooo many clients do this. I tell them, we just have to baby step through this. I know it sucks, but you will be so much better off if we do it.
I'd suggest first and foremost, making sure you don't have some kind of underlying condition that would prevent you from normal exercise. IE a heart condition, lung issues...etc. If you are able to say without a doubt there there is NO reason you should not exercise, then you need to start off gradual. I always started people with the basics. Push ups, sit ups, planks, body squats (no weight), walking lunges (no weight), step ups...etc. Just stuff to ramp up your endurance and get that metabolism in order.
Also, be mindful of if you're eating enough or too much. Those both can give you a sick feeling. I've been the victim of exercise hypoglycemia for years now. My solution was to have a carb replacement drink during my exercising. I sip on it the whole time. I have not had an episode since. I've gotten close if I push too hard, but I used to almost pass out or throw up. That's after being super condition to exercise too.
Don't ignore your body.Nurture it. Hope that helps in some way.

Re: The Health, Wellness, weight loss, and fitness thread
I mean my workout goes fine, but then a day or two later, I get flu-like symptoms.
I've been really careful getting back into things as I had the first three months of my injury (last December-Feb) completely immobilised, and I only hit the exercise again in September. Because of my injury and exertion effecting the eye pressure its been sopmething I've been very wary of. Not pushing myself to stupid points, but trying to find a Goldiloxks zone where what I do is actually making a difference.
I'm making very small steps, but I am noticing differences. Overall I feel better, and I really enjoy my routine, but I am getting sick of getting sick.
Maybe its just another barrier I have to push through?
Sucks about your hypos dude. My wife is diabetic, I know how shit they can get.
You get crabby?
Also, thanks for the tips. I do need to start looking at diet more carefully.
Just wish I could figure this shit out with the snot and fatigue.

Do you have any sort of immunodeficiency or some sort of long term stagnant illness? I'm not sure if exercise exacerbates new illness but if you're already sick working out compromises your immune system and gets you sicker.

Re: The Health, Wellness, weight loss, and fitness thread
I'm thinking it may be stress related, and the physical stress of exercise just punishes my immune system too hard.
But I feel so much better in the brain after a good run and some weights so, I don't really want to stop.
I've been tested for autoimmune stuff in the past and nothing obvious popped up.
Maybe I need some more extensive testing.

Maybe you're working out too hard. When I train legs really hard I find my workouts and reflexs in athletics and even just life stuff suffers. I've also puked numerous times immediately afterwards ..

I've been trying to workout for months now and I get like a week or two into shit and then I get really sick. Like every fucking time. I'm down to like a week out of every four or so, or one a week and then I'm wiped out and I have to rest the rest of the week because I'm wiped out.
What the fuck is that shit about?
Because it's pissing me off.
I'm really trying to do hard yards here and get some semblance of my fitness back now that I'm able to exercise again after my accident, but it's just ridiculous.
I know that I tend to push myself harder and harder and harder until I'm just too wiped to do anything, I get injured, or I get sick. If you're coming off of a period of immobilization and recovery from bodily trauma, etc... I'd reeeeally ease into it. Jwar was talking about push ups, body weight squats, etc.... You could try scaling back to that level. If I were you I'd look at frequency and volume. How often are you running/lifting/whatever and how much of it are you doing at a time? You might need to scale back the volume/frequency.
As for me I really wish I had access to a gym with weights and a good teacher to show me some olympic lifts.... That stuff looks fun (in that peculiar sort of way where fun = extremely hard work ....)

Re: The Health, Wellness, weight loss, and fitness thread
Yeah I may still be overexerting myself, but at the same time I'm so sick of being weak.
Basically I'm aiming for three workouts a week when I can. I do back legs first, rest a day, do chest shoulders, rest, then arms. Do a bit of ab work with each workout, try and kick off with 15 minutes of medium paced cardio each time. It's a rare thing when I get all three workouts into one week though due this constant flu thing popping up, though. I'm lifting weights that are heavy for me, but only aiming to do two or three sets between 8-10 reps each, some muscle groups are only 2 sets of five. I've seen big improvements in my abilities since I've started, so I'm getting somewhere. Maybe I'm just being a little too ambitious.
I get what you mean about the Olympic lifting and hard work being fun though. It's that whole accomplishment thing. I was hoping to be doing sets of like half my body weight for squats by the end of the year. That would have been a big deal for me.
I lost a lot of strength on my downtime.
I haven't puked yet, just been really shaky/wobbly.
I did piss blood after trying to hammer myself with pull ups and hanging leg raises in the heat the other week.
I have since upped my water intake dramatically. I think it was more to do with strain though. The next time I peed it was crystal clear.
Scared the shit out of me, still.

Re: The Health, Wellness, weight loss, and fitness thread

Pretty glad THAT hasn't happened to me yet.
Yeah my sleep has been up the arse for quite some time now, and I'm aware my diet needs overhauling.
Thanks for the tips man.

I think that's gonna be the next stage of my life overhaul.
I want to get a bit more fit so I can actually start doing a sport or something.
Have thought about some kind of non contact martial arts training like Tar Kwon Do. And my daughter wants to do Circus, so I might do it with her.
Also cold, digital delays are great for shredding.
But the weather here is more like a hot, gloopy oil can.
Viscous.
Sticky.
Not unlike semen.

except for that part i'm gonna go out on a limb here and say you're not eating/sleeping well enough now that you've added weights to your weekly routine.
granted, you live in australia, so the weather out there doesn't feel like a cold, harsh, digital delay, like over here, but you still need the sleeps and the calories to heal you back up.
if i do deadlifts, walk home in the cold and end up not eating for more than 1-2 hours after i've stopped working out im done for. Add a bad nights sleep and i know FOR SURE i'll wake up with a cold.
I won't get sick but fuck man if I don't eat and sleep soon after deadlifts I wake up with a sore ass posterior chain. That's why I pull sumo, although I don't care much about DLs. Just started doing them after being off for 4-5 months

Re: The Health, Wellness, weight loss, and fitness thread
The peeing blood thing is NOT normal. That's probably an underlying kidney issue, which could be the source of your fatigue. It's worth getting looked at. I would not ignore that if I were you.
I recently had a issue with my bowels. I have three gastrointestinal diseases and have had two major stomach surgeries. Everything was coming out almost black. Scary shit (literally). I freaked and then thought really hard about my diet. I'd been taking in quite an excess of protein recently and not had any breaks, plus taken way too many supplements. I knocked out all supplements except CoQ10, API Multi, and my two prescription meds for being crazy. OH! And I introduced a new probiotic with a super high count. I also eliminated Whey protein and started taking vegan protein (blah!!!). Within 24 hours my stools started to return to normal. Two days later, they are completely normal.
See I've had a gut issue for so long that I know what could or could not be the problem, but had that persisted, I'd be in an emergency room most likely because it would have meant an upper GI bleed or worse.
I tend to be on the side of caution with shit now. The older I get the more cautious I get.
Drink lots, and lots of water (like at least a gallon a day) and make an appointment to have that looked at man.

Dude I've been a fucking wreck the last week. After my doctors appointment I thought I was going to die. Oh hey your liver enzymes are triple what they ought to be, you blood pressure is too high, your testosterone is too high, and your estrogen is too high.
I was like. What? I've been a pinnacle of health for the longest time and now I'm going to have issues? The bp and liver fuck me up more than anything. I'm taking a liver support now and getting blood work done again here in like an hour and my bp has gradually started to come down. I think it's anxiety. Sigh. Fucking doctors. Fucking being healthy and then not being healthy. Life is such a whore.
I also pee like every 30 mins but the doctor said I have a small bladder.

Shitty. I hope it turns around for you. That reminds me that when I worked in a supplement department at my last store (I work for a chain) we would get a fair amount of ripped dudes wanting liver support..... Any thoughts on the connection?
