Yea I just built a new PC last week. But my previous one I built before I left for college, so that was a good 6 or 7 years ago. I even had an AMD processor in there. Just plug in a XBOX 360 controller if you need a controller to use.

Yeah once upon a time platform exclusives could justify owning multiple consoles.
Also in the era of pure consoles your collection became a transferrable asset.

Last gen console I own is PS2 (DS-lite after that but portables are their own thing).
Emulation is a mixed bag. Not a fan of ds emulation that doesn't involve using an actual ds.
But even N64 games play better on pc. Even with 10+ year old gpus. I still have an old AGP geforce card from ~2002.

Ever played Super Smash Bros using project64 at 60fps? Destroys the orig console experience. The AGP card would get taxed at that rate, but a 10 year old PCI 7950gt is more than capable.

All that said, I'm genuinely excited for the NX, first console in years I've been curious about.
The problem is Nintendo is as ridiculous as ever with western censorship and now anything Treehouse touches turns cringe. :grumpy:

even aside from Nintendo there are HUNDREDS of current gen Sony exclusives.
a lot of people don't care about the performance/maintenance/money side of it at all, it's just about being able to play the games you want to play.
this whole debate you see going around seems to just stem from that fact that lots of franchises that are big in the West have been able to exist on most platforms for a while now.
i prefer exclusivity because it doesn't give people the option to be all jaded about the platform they choose to play something on
my only problem is region locking. fuck nintendo's PAL/NTSC marketing bullshit and taking an extra 6 months to release shit in Europe when it's the same as the US localization.

To each their own, I guess. :)

Exclusives are bad all around. There are no positives.
I can't think of one reason why exclusives could be or should be justified.
Play whatever you want on what you want. As gamers, isn't that what we should be pushing for?
(let's just ignore microtransactions, shitty quality on release, pre-ordering, salty toxic communities, hive mentality, consoles being inferior, etc.....)

Gaming is fun.

Nintendo 8 bit is why I dropped out of playing them for ten years.

Was a giant step back from where even the later Apple II stuff was going, and worlds behind the C64.

I love it! So much fucking fun. I've really gotten the hang of the power ups.

I picked up Rainbow Six: Siege while it was on sale last week. It's an absolute blast with a squad of friends. I'm usually not too much of a FPS guy, but I'm pleasantly surprised by how much I'm enjoying it.

I said forever I'd get a xb1 eventually, because it made sense as a 360 owner. But now, getting Vita for FF1-10, and FF 7 remake on the horizon I'm leaning towards grabbing a ps4, even though it possibly could make its way to other systems.

But yes, choosing sucks. And I've never been a pc gamer and like most who are not, it confuses and scares me because I don't really understand it..I've always been a console guy. But they're getting so expensive and you really have to choose.

When it comes to vidya, I reflexively side with Japan over N.A. For software, for hardware.
I would go Sony over MS every time. MS still cant make a D-pad for shit. 20 years trying and they all suck. All of them. Mushy trash :|:
Not that D-pads are exactly crucial for modern gaming...unless platformers, fighters and JRPG menu nav, precise puzzle game inputs.

I was the same way. I went PS4 after 360 because of Destiny and Street Fighter V. I got sick of Destiny after playing it completely through on each console.......then it hit me that PC was what I should have done instead of the PS4. I was also a bit annoyed about having to re-buy games for each console.......or games weren't available. (I really love Borderlands 1. not on PS4)

I started reading about building a computer, then watching videos........then I asked the PCMASTERRACE subreddit for build suggestions. Surprisingly helpful. Pointed me in the right direction.
I determined what was important to me, and how good of a PC vs $$$ I wanted.

I used this site to create a build list. https://pcpartpicker.com/

When I was done, I posted my build just to make sure I had it all right. Made a few tweaks due to prices or stock online.

Ordered everything. Watched a few build videos and built it. I've had no issues so far.

Honestly, I had huge buyer's remorse soon after I built it. I think it was a combination of being burnt out on games in general, and not really sure what I had or what I was going to do with it. Got this $900 internet machine that I play the same games I was playing on console.

Now looking back, this was the best choice I could have made. I've been working through games I've always wanted to play, re-playing games, trying new ones and enjoying the perks PC has to offer.
As in, I thought I wouldn't really care about frames per second or graphics quality........but I do, and it's wonderful. It's very much a non-issue until you experience it for a while.
Friend has a 360 still and he was playing Borderlands 2, and it looked like shit to me. lol I played that whole game on 360 and never cared, but was immediately struck by how terrible it looked compared to my rig.

Again, to each their own since.........building a PC may not be the best choice for everyone. :)

What is game availability like? How soon, if ever, do games become available after being released on console?

I think part of it is the pc game section in store is super small...tons of xbox, playstation, and Nintendo, but the small pc (if any) section gives the impression of no availability. Again, no real knowledge here, just impression.

Also, is it just for gaming? Do you use it for other things? I think I'd have a hard time justifying building a gaming rig when I want a recording rig. Is it weird that buying a ps4 and a separate recording computer makes sense in my head, but not necessarily one thing that does both?

PC games aren't something you buy in a store.

Check Steam, Greenman, HumbleBundle.

And yes, the difference between a good recording PC and a good gaming PC is "add a good video card" - I use the same box for both, and always ahve.

Right away, unless console snagged an early release. (no man's sky was like that. console then PC 3 days later)
For the most part games are released same day. Sometimes you can pre-download games too. You can't play but you can do a bulk of the download early.....so it's ready when you want to play.

Although, if you're talking about console exclusive games? not always. I can't play Destiny on PC (as an example).
You can play most old console games via emulators, which is pretty cool.
You could probably use the controllers from old consoles, if you have the proper adapter.

PS4 throttles download speeds too. Games took ages to download on PS4. I think Destiny was like 12 hours!!!
I don't care how big the games is....that's crazy.
I download Bioshock remastered 1 and 2 last night. around 40 mins total.
My internet speed is shit, but I can handle 40mins.

Yeah, like rfurtkamp said. I have only 90 games (I say only because most people have WAY more due to sale bundles). all digital downloads. Mostly through Steam and Battle.net.

The games go on sale a lot. Obviously, if you want a game on release it's full price, but wait a month or two and it will go on sale. Blizzard doesn't sale. Then they have a lot of other sales too. I bought a few games at asking price when I started, but now I would NEVER buy an older game at asking price. Just wait for a deal or sale.

I use mine mostly for gaming and browsing, but often good gaming computers are good for recording as well.
I have recorded with mine without issue.

I mean, a PC basically does everything a console can do plus more.

Only negative I can think of with PC is if you do a lot of couch co-op games. You can play online co-op, but not a lot of couch co-op for PC. Though modern games aren't doing that much anymore anyway.

So much this.
Although, I am, at this point more gaming oriented on my PC.
I want to get set up for basic home recording soon but it'll be a longer term project.

I am having a shit ton of fun doing music bleepbloopdroning on my iphone, though.
