If you like Nintendo games, then it's worth it but they really never make it easy for third party developers to make stuff for their platforms, for some reason. The WiiU devkit is the most ass-backward piece of gear I ever had to work with. Compared to dev tools from Sony or MS it just feels like something from the previous century :whateva: . But yeah, their own games are usually really good so if you're happy with them then go for it, they're probably cheap as fuck these days.
Bayonetta 2 and Monster Hunter 3U were good too.
Was also dying to play Xenogears.

EDIT: Buyer Beware. Apparently there is some trickery involved with purchases of the graphics cards, instant emails with the code, then cancelling the original order.

Heads up to those interested in buying Gears of War 4 for cheap. People are selling their codes that were included with a Nvidia graphics gard promotion for about $30 on Ebay. I bought one and it seems legit, showing the game as preordered in my list of games. It is a cross-buy game, so one purchase works for PC and Xbox.

UPDATE: Too good to be true. Apparently Nvidia nuked all the codes they gave out. I am actually okay with this, finding out afterwards that this was a scam. Now I just have to get my money back from the Ebay seller and purchase the game legitimately as a digital download.

anyone here savvy with gaming laptops?

my alienware m17x is nearing the end of it's lifespan (bought it 4 years ago and it's been great but the last few months i've had a lot of issues and the GPU doesn't handle new games well; i really got my money's worth, though).
the market has changed a lot in that time and i'm really not finding consistency in the reviews i've read. everyone seems to have different experiences with the same brands.
mostly just trying to work out what i should avoid
i'm only looking at 17+ inch models. doesn't have to be super high spec but for future's sake a current-gen GPU and CPU would be good. was looking at the MSI GS73, Gigabyte p57x, or anything $2-3k-ish (AUD tho).

Everybody I know that's running a gaming laptop these days for "has to work every time" competitive gaming is using a mid-grade Asus or higher.

I've had an Asus ROG G750 for the past few years. The only issue I have encountered is that you have to be plugged in when gaming, and that's really not an issue to me. It's starting to have some trouble with newer games; I think I had to set Fallout 4 to low or medium, but it's a 3-4 year old laptop

Interesting.. From what i've gathered the ROG's are a a few hundred pricier than identical spec models from MSI, Gigabyte and Metabox here. About on par with Alienware (which are way worse value now than when i bought mine).
Could be related to the exchange rates and distribution channels, but they do seem to be well made.

It's really bothering me that pretty much nothing has a dedicated HDMI input nowadays, though.

Plugged in while gaming is pretty much standard, the video cards won't run off that battery!

Any reason why you do gaming laptop over a desktop? I feel like you're spending a lot of extra money for it to just be a laptop.

I need to be able to take it interstate or overseas without hassle, and I spend more time computing in bed than at a desk (shit posture 'cos of a spine condition, so i find it more comfortable).
Paying an extra thousand dollars for the more cozy option has been more than worthwhile for me thus far. Lifestyle value, not performance value, etc.

that's why we have portable consoles with tiny screens, so people really have to squint when you're playing weebshit on the train.

My 5 year old ROG still plays most games on high settings, although I have to go down to medium settings and expect some dip in frame rate on the newest games. Still good for a 5 year old laptop. Defintely getting a newer ROG soon. Very pleased with it.

This pretty much this. I do business all over the country and two things I can do without are a gaming laptop and a plugin wireless hotspot. I know guys that tried to bring desktops but the first trip through PHL or hartsford jackson and they all had an asus or lenovo next trip without fail.

I personally have a lenovo of some model with 16gb and a gtx960m. I love it and probably won't upgrade until desktop graphics cards become more commonplace and affordable.... although the new thinkpad with the mechanical keyboard and gtx1080 is intriguing.

Also i somewhat like the idea of the new alienware windows consoles.

Yea, my old raiding guys either are using the same laptop after 4 years or so, or they burn up in two.

All a matter of whether the video card survives, the Nvidias in them are high performance engines without much oil to keep them afloat.
