I love having a guitar that I don't have to worry about knocking around. That ship had sailed in the 30 years before I had it. If I snap the head off one day I'd probably just shrug and glue it back on.

Don't know if anyone has played this particular copy, but the neck is just supreme.

Yep! Pre-serial number but I think it's a 74. The original owner(s) never got to play it in tune because the bridge was installed about 3-4mm off the correct place.. couldn't quite get the saddles away from the intonation being sharp. I used to have a piece of wire jammed up against the nut as a budget zero-fret. I took it to a luthier, who was convinced it'd correct after a refret.. which it didn't. He added a tidy carbon overhanging nut to fix it at no extra cost. Ironically I found a Japanese symbol meaning something along the lines of QC stamped inside.

Regarding the pickups. I bought an icecream container full of randoms at auction, coil tapped the humbuckers (I think they're maxons), then added phase flip switches. I installed the lipstick just because I really dig how Danelectro neck pickup sounds. Pretty happy with the result ..until I change my mind haha

It's just made of ply too, so suuuper light.

My latest DIY Partsblaster. I need to reset the tailpiece and maybe the pickguard to get things a bit more flush and square, but it's up and running pretty well.

- Warmoth boatneck, mahogany + rosewood, black dots
- Guitar Mill mahogany body in Charcoal Frost Metallic
- Proto Guitars sorta filtertrons (PAF sized)
- Rothstein PTB wiring mod (G&L passive treble and bass cuts, series/parallel switching and dual volumes with treble bleeds) (this mod kit is awesome!!!)
- Black anodized aluminum guard from Tone-Guard
- Black Mastery OMV vibrato and bridge
- Assembled with the help of the fine dudes at Nazareth Guitar Institute.

It's not singing for me quite yet, but after a few more rounds of tweaks and set-up adjustments I think it will. Definitely learned a ton on this one!

I like these pickups quite a bit! They're my first Filtertron'ish pickups, so I don't really know how they sound compared to actual Filtertrons. (The Proto Guitars guys construct them like Filtertrons, so maybe they're close? Not sure.) The bridge has lots of chimey overtone stuff going on, creates sort of a natural, awesome chorus. The neck is wooly and airy. They're a nice change of pace from the Gibson and DiMarzio humbuckers that I have in other guitars. And the dual band tone stack with passive treble and bass cut gives a ton of options for shaping.

Honeymooning, but enjoying it.
