It's cool how much taking a break actually reinvigorates you when it comes to playing music. Hadn't properly played anything in maybe 1-2 months, bought some pedals while on holiday and i've probably spent more time playing than I had the previous 6 months.

I bought a shitty skateboard on Amazon and am (re)teaching myself to skateboard haha. I haven't tried since I was like maybe 10 and I was terrible then but I had the best time just going around my driveway today back and forth and in circles.

My dad sent me the best crazy letter today warning me about the end of the world. It's like, crazy-street-preacher crazy. He wants me to move into the wilderness with him. It's so wonderfully crazy.

I've started gaining weight for the first time since I stopped eating meat (about 1,5 years ago). I'm still skinny, but I look a bit healthier, I reckon. Not sure if I'm eating better or just getting old though.

No, you were already old, must be the food.
Sold my superfluous pedals in one fell swoop last night, leaving me with the stuff I use regularly. Feels good, man.

I'm only a few pedlols and a couple of gadgets away from this as well. It does feel good. Forces me to get to know the remaining pedals better.Eivind August wrote: Sold my superfluous pedals in one fell swoop last night, leaving me with the stuff I use regularly. Feels good, man.

Exactly! Looked through the list of all the pedals I've owned, and realized that I'm more or less back where I always end up. This time I think I'll just be content. Oscillating fuzzes, analog delays and some glitchy shit to put inbetween.UglyCasanova wrote:I'm only a few pedlols and a couple of gadgets away from this as well. It does feel good. Re: the happiness, excitement, and general contentedness thr
Yesterday I had the opportunity to go into the studio with my latest band, Raab Zamboni (my first time in a professional studio). We're a quartet of drums, bass, bass/trumpet, and saxophone (I play the sax through my pedalboard) and we make weird fake-jazz (pretty jazzy, but more like a technical/mathy rock hybrid, and none of us are trained in jazz). The studio belongs to John Congleton (of The Paper Chase fame) and is the same studio where my favorite band, and our very own Brian Hamilton's band, Cymbals Eat Guitars, recorded their last album. We were engineered by Alex Bhore, the former drummer of This Will Destroy You - not only were they a live favorite of mine (I saw them perform upwards of 25 times over the last seven years), but their album Tunnel Blanket (engineered and produced w a lot of help from Alex) is my all-time favorite piece of music.
Alex reached out a couple months back, and I decided to talk to my bandmates about taking the financial plunge to record properly before our drummer leaves the country on the 30th. We footed the (incredibly affordable) bill, knocked out 3 killer tracks, and got fodder for a few more. It was hands-down the most exciting recording experience of my life. I'm so very proud the results from the session, and it made me realize how far I've come as a musician since I started performing live 18 months ago. It gave me a sense of accomplishment I haven't ever really felt to be recording the same studio that one of my favorite bands recorded at, being recorded by the man partly responsible for my favorite piece of music, who was also very appreciative and excited about the music I was making with my band. At the end of the day he also thanked us for being so prepared, which made me tear up because we walked in with nothing but loose structures of our songs that vary take-to-take but share a similar arc.
ALSO he had an awesome array of pedals that we could play with. I passed up a bunch of things I would've liked on guitar, but ended up using a Fairfield Circuitry Meet Maude, which sounded phenomenal. At the end of the session I told Alex how much I liked the pedal, and he let me borrow it indefinitely. So now I (temporarily) have an analog delay on my board for the first time, and I love it.
