also you also should not have to install/uninstall macports every time you update. the script as is will install then update then uninstall but that is a bit of waste of time if you ever intend to update again in the future. if you remove teh uninstall part you should achieve this... but if you dont want macports/need teh drive space then leave it as is.

I'd actually recommend the script because it uses Homebrew instead of ports. This will allow you to update without using Xcode and will save you from using the 10GB or so that Xcode takes.

Script has been updated, you no longer have to download anything but the script. Same link as the last one. https://www.dropbox.com/s/2rbxpy767uqnm ... te.sh?dl=0

That should be easier for me to update because all it requires is me updating the file on my server.

Full instructions:
1) Download the script either at https://www.dropbox.com/s/2rbxpy767uqnm ... te.sh?dl=0 or at http://mtlasm.drodriguez.us/updates/Ct5_Update.sh
2) Open terminal and paste the following text (including the space)

Code: Select all

sh
3) Drag the file from wherever you downloaded it to your terminal window
4) Hit enter and follow the instructions

Unrelated to the update, but here's a clip I made of a Count to 5 being CV-controlled by an 8-step Program. The end result is Steve Reich-esque phasing. Quick tech rundown (also found on page 2222 of Show Us Your PEDALBOARD!):
Ct5 in Mode 3; 8-step set to a quick rate, 7 of the 8 sliders are set to unity pitch, and one is ever so slightly off. Slowly over time the difference in playback speed every time the 8-step hits that slider will snowball and you get some awesome phasing.

solo tunes:
completed works || loosey goosey releases
associated acts:
Raab Zamboni (fake jazz/real noise//sax, modular synth, editing, misc) || Field Guide (my best friends//sax on 2 tracks)

I make t-shirts, patches, koozies, buttons, CDs, sometimes tapes, and eventually i'll start working on pedals again. DM me for pricing!

Yeah, it was fine for me, too, with a previous firmware update.

So I'm a little confused. I was told the CT5 could only do CV at 0-3V and anything above could damage it. The 8-step is 0-5 CV. And Dropping Acid Pedal Etching also used it with a Beatstep, which is 0-7V.

the ct5 is only happy up to 3.3VDC. THere is some protection/tolerance a bit above but i really do not recommend using a cv if you are not clamping the input voltage somehow. If you blow the cpu this way i will not warranty it since i do not advertise it as a cv in/ there is not much protection/it expects a pot and only a pot/sorry that is the design for now. You could hack some parts onto the small pcb holding the expression jack (on rev j and up) or onto the panel mounted expression jack (revh,i) to make it safer but as it is it's nto super well protected from excessive voltage on teh expression input.

from the 8 step manual though:

EXP/CV OUT Jack

The 8-STEP’s sequence is output through this jack. When connecting to the Expression
input on an external pedal or other device, normally you will want to connect the TRS cable
that came supplied with the 8-STEP to the 8-STEP’s EXP/CV jack. If you are connecting the
8-STEP to a CV input, use a standard ¼” mono/TS instrument cable instead, the same type
of cable you would plug into a guitar. When a TRS cable is plugged into the EXP/CV OUT
jack, the 8-STEP works as a replacement for a typical expression pedal with the following
connections: TIP = potentiometer wiper or output signal, RING = Toe position and
SLEEVE = Heel position.
This is the standard polarity for the TRS plug of an expression
pedal that many in the industry follow including all EHX products as well as Boss®
/Roland® ,Moog®, Nord® etc. Tip: To work properly with devices that accept 3.3V as their maximum,
such as Eventide® products, set DEPTH to 5.

regarding 7v, again ymmv. there is some protection but not much. Anything over 3v will be the same as toe down on expression pedal and may damage the device.

Cheers for the info. Wasn't planning to plug a sequencer in just yet but will at some point. Probably gonna get some sort of CV scaling device made as I need it for other pedals too.

Has anyone but me used the CT5 with a microphone?? Holy crap it's hilariously crazy! I used an iPhone set of headphones as the mic and ran the CT5 through the fx loop of my amp, then tried it direct with a Boss SD1 (to bring up volume). Both resulting in pure insanity. I did a mini clip on instagram but it can do way more than what I did. I even did some looping (not recorded) and it's freaking nuts!!
