I tried to turn my wife on to Beck, last night. She hated it. She said it felt like I was putting jelly in her ears. I loved that description!

It started with me watching the video for his new song Wow, remembering how great Beck is, and thinking "oh, it's got horses, she'll dig it". Nope. Then, as if challenged, I went straight to songs from my favorite album. Nicotine & Gravy. Sex Laws. Debra! Nah ah. I even jumped over to E-Pro, 'cause she knows that from Rock Band. She said she had never liked that one. Finally, because she also hates Eternal Sunshine..., I played Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime. She threatened to leave the room at that point.

I really don't understand how anyone can not like Beck.

Booooo. Odelay or The Information. Or Mellow Gold or Modern Guilt or Guero.

That new single is garbage. It's the kind of thing that sounds like it was presented like a demo, and someone said "okay, well when can you start getting a real, polished version together?" and awkward moment ensues.

YES. His last album was awful too. Sounded like a pale imitation of himself.

Yeah I wanted to like the last album but it just sounded like he was trying to do Sea Change again only less good.
