The more I have learned and the better at musics I have gotten over the years I respect technical playing less and primitive playing more Iike reggae, seems simple, and I have heard may chops manglers horrible blow it because they don't under stand what feel and space actually are, which knowing scales will not save you with, which is why in the end of all things Barrett in on an entire different level than Jaco
I agree with both of you. I love Jazz Guitar and Shred and technical things but you know...I don't create hierarchies on that stuff. It's not a prerequisite. One of my favorite guitar riffs is the riff for CAT POWER's 'He War'...not very technical.
I usually unintentionally make people into 'that sort of thing' upset when I say my favorite Jazz Guitarist is Crazy Jim Baljo from WOLF EYES (because he is one of my favorites...this also upsets people who are into noise as those folks tend not to like later WOLF EYES material [I just can't win]).

That's how I feel about jazz drumming. I like it, but I can't even begin to wrap my head around it in a way I could even try to imitate. What do you mean your right hand plays something other than straight eighth/quarter notes?
On jazz guitar: Sharrock is love. Sharrock is life.

I set up an email for my crazy dad to send his crazy, end of the world prophecies to, but I forgot both the email and the password.
Not sure if I should be sad or glad? He did send some grade-A crazy stuff. Like, Coast-to-Coast A.M. crazy. So, I'll miss that. But I won't miss his less fun hypochondria and narcissim induced rants.

It's all about the swing feeling and letting that right hand go groovy with triplets, not trying to set the tempo for the rest of the band, fuck 'em. Jazz is about being a selfish ass having fun and pretending you know what you're doing, and remember that in jazz mistakes are more than okay.

hehe that would be great tho! There is lots of shit I never learned, but I can still play that intro from The Beautiful People by Marilyn Manson, the one that Battles shamelessly borrow.

@snip: dude look up some J Dilla drum videos. Fun ways to rush/drag that aren't cliched jazz licks. Or Mark Giuliani/Jojo Mayer. ELECTRO-JAZZ. Love those guys. My thing is to play lots of ostinato patterns with my right foot and right hand, like on a stacked trash cymbal or the bell of the ride.
Unrelated: I used to think 'vehicle' was pronounced 'vedicle,' and still kinda do.
