My experience is that most glitch/stutter pedals cover one or two modes of the Revolver and the Revolver is like the catch all for everything most people could want from that type of pedal. I have a Revolver II currently and Im waiting on a DX. They'll be side-by-side when my name comes up.codetocontra wrote:Hey Elevenstrings, what is your favorite pedal(s) to use with the Revolver DX? Impressive to see you have 3 versions, and I know they are all capable of doing different things. Obviously some overlap with the Possessed and Raptio, so how do you choose to use which one? I ask because I am thinking about getting another glitch source to go along with my DX, even considering another DX.

After listening to many demos on YT I have been coming to the same conclusion. Though something like the Raptio could do a couple of specific glitch things while leaving my DX to do other glitch things. Jealous of your future dual Revolver setup.whoismarykelly wrote:My experience is that most glitch/stutter pedals cover one or two modes of the Revolver and the Revolver is like the catch all for everything most people could want from that type of pedal. I guess I should have said I'll have that Red etched off of it - yeah, Dan W. I tried etching Expressionators when I first made them - nasty stuff.JonnyAngle wrote: Do you etch your own or have Dan do it?
I guess it kind of depends on what mode(s) you are using on the DX? The Revolver is kind of the original glitch pedal and definitely the most versatile.codetocontra wrote:Hey Elevenstrings, what is your favorite pedal(s) to use with the Revolver DX? You can't really go wrong with two - in fact, you can change one of them to 1-second mode an get the same feel as the II (without the extra random modes).
The Possessed is good if you just want to totally random and uncontrollable glitches.
Raptio/Mandala kind of fall into the same functions Mode 1 on the DX. With Mandala giving you some Rainbow Machine/CT5 pitch stuff and the Raptio with some Freeze. Raptio is a little bit cleaner/hi-fi than the Mandala, but the Mandala has a random mode if the knob is fully CW.
Judder goes more LoFi and has some other unique stuff, but requires a lot of knob turning to change "modes". Also it's more Delay-like.
An old Revolver II has a couple of Random modes the DX doesn't.
Super Flutter has a cool whammy bar + glitch thing - but I think he stopped making them. It also has a cool choppy trem and tap tempo glitching.
I wouldn't buy an Ottobit Jr. for the stutter, but it's kind of of a multi-effect with a pitch/bit/filter sequencer, lp filter, bitcrusher, and stutter. Requires a MIDI controller (to save presets) and expression pedal to get the most out of it.
I wouldn't consider the Charlie Foxtrot or the csiDman.
As for best combo, I'm kind of mixing and matching a lot of them, so it really depends. Revolver + Revolver is a lot of fun and the Super Flutter post Revolver is definitely killer.
It's a gritty/simplified PLL with a lot of knobs/functions removed and only the multiplier to change the pitch. It does have a pretty cool sequencer tacked onto it. I imagine it might get less play time when I get the Montreal Assembly Purpll. That said, it's all over an album I just finished (still being mastered) and has a neat 8-bit kind of sound and it's like having a PLL without having to mess with a 100 knobs.hotknife wrote:Oi, Eleven!![]()

The expressionator is one of my favorite pieces of gear :-)elevenstrings wrote: I guess I should have said I'll have that Red etched off of it - yeah, Dan W. I tried etching Expressionators when I first made them - nasty stuff.
I had been wanting one for a while (not mentioning trying to diy something similar ... ) and finally got one recently. I was happy to find out it also works with CV as controller, which I could not find documented anywhere :-)

I also received the Tremolo, but haven't had the time to build it yet.

I'm doing a run of pedals for Digitech soon, so I'll let Dan know how easy/hard it is to etch those suckers.JonnyAngle wrote:Do you etch your own or have Dan do it?elevenstrings wrote:they make the stomps bigger targets, and the tall ones help for clearance or when the stomp is hard to reach. plus they are gentle on my feetsies.
and drolo, i'm getting one of those ricochets at some point, but I'm sure I'll etch that red right off of it.
Great looking board as always Jean! Love the bass too.

I love the Raptio for straight up stutter on demand and the ability to totally mangle what ever you are stuttering. If MASF made one with tap tempo, tap divisions, and separate latching and momentary switches I'd be in heaven.codetocontra wrote:After listening to many demos on YT I have been coming to the same conclusion. Those enclosures are steel so it'll be quite a bit different from etching the usual hammond boxes.jwar wrote:I'm doing a run of pedals for Digitech soon, so I'll let Dan know how easy/hard it is to etch those suckers.JonnyAngle wrote:Do you etch your own or have Dan do it?elevenstrings wrote:they make the stomps bigger targets, and the tall ones help for clearance or when the stomp is hard to reach. plus they are gentle on my feetsies.

I did, less than 200€ for both; really cool price. Those are my first DIY pedals.drolo wrote:oh you bought the kits, that was a cool idea from him

My arion phaser turned up (the one I got after it was compared to a mutron on here)... it's a great phaser but the bypass SUCKS and the pots are really wobbly. I might try and rehouse myself on the cheap at some point.
