All but the first 100 or so made have 2 internal trimpots to adjust Attack and Knee. Mine is a v1, has Attack trimpot only. Still super versatile...it's velvety in all the right ways but can really squash at the extremes. The v2s added Knee control is basically a Ratio tweak, but the circuit is still program dependent first & foremost. Super simple controls, right you are; based on La2a [without transformer-coupling]. Effectrode pedals are top shelf, foreal.

Have you tried a Fairfield Accountant? It's the only compressor I've ever liked and you can find it for just over 100 bucks sometimes. I've been wanting another one for a while now. I play clean more often than I used to but I want more character.

I checked one out during one of the SXSW pedal expos and dug it, but I remember it having a good bit of character, right? I liked it, just doubt it'd be a comp I'd put to regular use. Maybe should give it a revisit though—I've noticed you singing its praises quite a few times

The Fairfield demo does a pretty good job showing it's range. There are settings you cant tell it's on at all. And settings that sound like chewing gum.

My big thing is that I want it mostly for cleans. I want more sustain in my clean tone, but I also want to tame transients etc while I'm singing and playing, smoothing things out a bit. A comp is really one of the most practical needs I've come across in terms of pedals, but I've had a shit time finding one I've liked. My main thing is that I despise the pumping/plinky sound... I do like it to be really over the top occasionally (like with an Orange Squeezer), but I wouldn't use that sound too much. I've had an EQD Warden (sounded pretty good, but made my tone feel a bit lifeless), an Analogman BiComp (too pumpy, though I liked the Juicer side as I mentioned), a Cali76 TX, and a Cali76 Compact Deluxe. I've sold them all.

My problem is that I love compressors, but specifically the studio kind—it makes perfect sense that a pedal that costs a couple hundred bucks doesn't come close to a studio comp, which is usually $1500 to get in the ballpark. The Cali claimed to have gotten there in the 1176 realm, but to me it still just didn't do it.

I'm gonna try the Bondi because from what I gather, it can give me the things i want (sustain, transient taming) without being too noticeable. Plus the auto mode seems really appealing. We'll see! I know I can flip it easily if it doesn't work for me. Fingers crossed, though.

Diamond comp is great, as well. Really easy to dial in subtle yet effective compression and eq. Im all about *sparkle* and *chime* (I only want to hear that swirly, super 3d sound when I play), and the diamond was perfect for that; especially when you add a little bit of treble with the EQ.

I last owned a PW-2 close to a decade ago and recall it having Tonebender-ish and/or Muff-like qualities with ample, Boss-style "boxy" mids.
