Re: What are you listening to right now?
This track is fucking crazy. The bass particularly, is it just a bass through a treble heavy fuzz?

Re: What are you listening to right now?
That's a pretty good track. I feel like there's a big difference between the funk of the 70's and the funk of the 80's though. The former, which I prefer, is a lot of live instruments. You have live drums and percussion, real brass
instruments, clavinet, tonewheel and transistor organs, fuzz guitar, some chugging, great, great bass tones, the occasional Moog or Arp synth bass and leads, limited post-production, etc. The funk of the 80's however, is a lot of drum machines
(LinnDrum and Drum-Traks in particular), those typical 80's synth brasses, DX-7 and SCI basslines, overprocessed guitars (WITH NO FUZZ) and vocals, too much cheesy slapping and just generally a completely different feel. A lot of 70's funk
is soul influenced, down-tempo, feature downright nasty grooves and sometimes bridges over to the psychedelic, whereas a lot of 80's funk is up-tempo, happy-go-lucky type shit.
Anyway, these are just my thoughts on the funk. Feel free you share yours.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
I like it all friendo...and I agree with you. I do find a lot of merit in sort of sterile sounding sounds though. I love that track I posted and one of the reasons I do is because despite the dynamics literally not changing throughout the track (same drum timbres same envelope filter amount etc.) I think there is a ton of passion in sort of 'making it work'.
I went to a lot of family parties, growing up in the early 90s, when you still needed to hire a DJ, where they played TONS of generic 'Party Rock / HIts' so I have an immense love for really basic tracks like that. Sterile yet happy-go-lucky. The kind of tracks where 'you're supposed to dance'.
I'm going to post some Cambodian Psych Rock. I think that would be up your alley too. I'll post in the 'Whatever Thread' though as I don't want to shit up this one.
