What are these modular things that whosmarykelly posted about? I'd imagine you'd make some crazy things in that realm.

Either way good to see you post again.

I often post code/schematics on diy forums as I work on designs, or to anyone who asks. Example, here's the schematic and source code for v2 of the mechanical sun delay

http://dronecloud.org/stuff/mechanical_ ... ematic.jpg
http://dronecloud.org/stuff/delay_v2.html

But posting it like this isn't useful for most people aside from a curiosity. So I've been thinking of making an organized deposit of source files for some of these yeah. Like put my schematics, pcb layouts, bill of materials and source code on github or something. And maybe a shared oshpark PCB so people can just straight up order the board from them. I'd have to figure out how things work first (especially regarding open licenses), but it's crossed my mind more than a few times. Technicalities aside, I really don't mind if someone takes my source files and builds it, as long as they're not rebranding it and calling it their own.

This week I really wanted the mutable instruments elements synth module, but it's 800 dollars! But huge kudos to them as far as I know all their modules are open source and they have a github with all soruce files. So I went and ordered just a bare PCB and some parts from their bill of materials, and I'll probably be doing my own front panel for it. It's really cool that they allow that, and it might give me more drive to open one of my own pedals up sooner rather than later.

I wanted to design my own take on the noisering/turing machine modules, so I did just that in less than a week in some kind of weird creative fit! I took what I liked from both, discarded what I never use and did this. In code though, instead of cmos logic, so it was extremely fast. Then I designed and ordered the pcbs and front panel.

Image

Then literally the next day I was like "I still want to design stuff", so I made an ADSR that was more what I wanted than the wmd multimode I use. It was even faster because I just rewired the turing machine prototype slightly, the rest was new code. And a few days later I ordered this.

Image

Working this fast has downsides. I forgot to add the sequence ranges on the turing machine panel before I ordered it made. Whoops.

What's up with the wavebank on the ADSR?

As per the license stuff, yea it's worked for Mutable. He uploaded PCBs to github though that didn't have his official branding so people would stop selling them as "real" Mutable modules. It's really cool of him to do that though, I like poking through the code and I've had fun building some of their modules. Open source is generally really cool when everyone gets together and doesn't act like a dick about it.

Yeah man oshpark for sure. Group buys on boards, high fives and represents all around. I love it that you're willing to share. Thanks. I truly mean that

I'm using wavetables for the adsr rather than math, so I can do stuff like this (pulled right off my prototype)

Image

basically taking wavetable concept but applying it to the attack/decay/release parts of the envelope. I was using tables to do blendable curves anyway so I figured it was little extra work to add optional wackier shapes to it.

I'll have a read of the details for open licensing and all that. I'm thinking maybe start with opening up the hollow earth. it's the easiest to solder (a couple smd chips, but big/easy-ish), and smallest part count.

obviously doesn't help those who aren't into diy, or those who really like my paintjobs, but it's something?

something > nothing

Well this site has a pretty large group of DIY dudes and there's a world of people to appreciate your designs. I make everything I can get my hands on but I only gift pedals occasionally.

I'll build one :)

Ohhhhhh that wave bank is a pretty cool idea for an ADSR. I don't know if you want another idea for that wave bank, but NLC's Sly Grogan makes a really unique shape. Still haven't built mine yet but I'm excited to use it.

FWIW I was mostly being a douche and I will admit that.

I dig your stuff dude and I always wanted to try something from you but the mentioning of it in new threads irks me because it's not a possibility. So it feels like beating a dead horse.

However, I'm glad you're doing well and making new stuff. It looks killer. I totally get the anxiety thing too. I have it bad and that's probably why Acid Splash Designs never expands into anything bigger than it is. I just can't fucking mentally handle it. So I'm sorry for giving you a hard time.

I also do not think you ought to open source your stuff. It's yours. Keep it. If you get to a place to share it and make it, then that's awesome.

IDK, as has already been pointed out, it's worked nicely for Mutable (who shares a bit of aesthetic overlap with cloudscapes, to me anyway).

Weird to see someone loudly complain that a company's pedals are unobtainable and then tell the builder not to make them obtainable via open-sourcing the build documentation when they offer.

I want to make them. Just for myself of course. I'd love some open source :omg:
