They do things like how PayPal and Ebay used to do it, whatever banking method they use takes FOREVER to clear. They also don't release the payment until you get confirmed delivery. They may even hold it for feedback, I can't remember right now. Reverb is convenient for a lot of things, but not getting paid quickly.Strange Tales wrote:How long does it take for Reverb to transfer money to your account? Good god. I set up Direct Checkout to avoid more fees but I like having my money in a timely matter. 4 days since I shipped the items and the money transfer hasn't even started yet.

God damn it, is it for confirmed delivery? I swear on their site it says transfer starts when it's confirmed that shipping started. Think I might just remove Direct Checkout then.

I'm going off memory, so I could be wrong. I remember though that I sold something last year where I didn't get paid for like a month, because the buyer hadn't clicked some button. I made a complaint to Reverb and they checked the tracking and saw it confirmed, so they released the payment. It still took a week to show up in my account.

I've been "trying" to do this thing where I don't get rid of anything, but I also don't acquire anything (disregard my digital delay posts in the $22 thread). It's like the Wonka Factory. Nothing gets in and nothing gets out except food and caffeinated beverages.actualidiot wrote:I feel like throwing out most of the shit I own, save gear and basic furniture. Re: The what ever thread...
I got rid of all my media, save for a few things I couldn't easily replace, a few years ago. I have felt mostly good about it, except now that streaming services are starting to radically change their shift from having every movie and tv show to just original programming and then dozens of niche services for the existing content. I had Hulu, Netflix and Amazon Prime and they're useless for half of what I got them for now. There's some shows and movies I straight up cannot watch now that I used to own. I do get to see some new stuff easier, but every time there's a new movie I heard about that I want to see, it doesn't come on streaming for years it seems.

Re: The what ever thread...
I think that's the big paradigm shift. I was just talking to someone who worked at ESPN for 26 years and they have an app underway (if not out I already? I loathe sports so I would be the last to know). Instead of having cable, which is so expensive, people have been getting streaming services (nothing new here). The next step, per niche services, is subscribing to what in cable would be "each channel". In my mind people will have like 50 channels they subscribe to...and this will inadvertently lead to (in more extreme cases) the price of what cable used to be per monthCorey Y wrote:...except now that streaming services are starting to radically change their shift from having every movie and tv show to just original programming and then dozens of niche services for the existing content. Right now, for niche services, I have Shudder. Thinking of getting Full Moon. I still have Netflix and Prime (I'll probably never go without Prime per the shipping, not so much the streaming). I paid for Netflix the past five years and my brother is paying for it this year (I would have done without it when my last credit card expired).
The ESPN app is going to be weird though as contracts with major franchises (NFL) are dictated by much larger networks (ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX). Who knows?

Re: The what ever thread...
You can't really base your decisions on op ed pieces anyway. For any point of view there's someone out there to tell you it's stupid and pointless.
If you're interested in minimalism you can always try removing some of those things from your everyday life for a bit and seeing how it affects you. Then if you find you really don't need/miss them, you can figure out what's to go. You can always prioritize things to get rid of in stages by frequency of use. Reducing redundancies in every day use and specialty items is a good moderate step there too. If you have 20 pairs of socks, never wear more than 10 pairs in a week and do laundry every week, if you 4 spatulas and almost never use 2 of them, if you only wear a suit twice a year but have 8 suits, if you like movie but have every box set version of it and only watch one, that sort of thing. A lot of people collect things, but never use, display or flip them, which can make a lot of clutter.

Re: The what ever thread...
See, I got rid of cable because it was 1000 channels of crap and less than a dozen I watched. Now if I want to watch the same things I could get between Netflix and Hulu at one point, I'd have to subscribe to a dozen services and I still have cable internet. So I'd rather be able to just pick my cable stations and have DVR at this point. I'd take the networks, HBO, some movie channels, a horror specific network like Shudder and a few basic cable channels that have shows I like. I'd probably still do Netflix for some of their original programming, but I'm over Hulu if you rule out the ping-ponging of shows they fight over stealing from each other every other year.$harkToootth wrote:I think that's the big paradigm shift.
