Just the tracking all the way down the neck is pretty rad, although I do love the sound of a green ringer played lower on the neck

It really does! I get a good vibe from the guy and all his stomps in that vid seem useful and well executed.

Yeah, big Joe Gore fan. I still haven't tried any of his pedals, but've wanted to since he started building.

I'm definitely eventually gonna get a Gross Distortion. :snax:

Also, think he missed the boat not making this the image on the Screech:

 Joe is awesome--it's a pleasure to hear him actually speak--he's pretty devoted to the principle of "no-talk-demo." Hopefully he finds a good balance between playing/writing/building etc.... I wouldn't at all mind seeing his pedals in wider distribution; still, they're thankfully (reasonably) far from unobtainium.... :joy:

It gooses other gain sources quite well, though would probably work best with another Percolator with its clipping diodes disengaged. An experiment is in order.

I’m really hoping that thing sounds good on bass, I’ve been using a Nano POG but I hate how pristine it is. The Screech seems like it does all sorts of gnarly shit.

Any of you ever run your percs through a Buzzz or some other kind of fuzzy, octave up scarmbler sorta thing? I just need to know how nasty that sounds.

Depends from pedal to pedal impo. It's real easy to end up with an overly nasty mess, and usually not in a good way. Ymmv and all that ofcoure :idk:

Another question I'm sure you percolator affectionatos should be able to answer...:

What's the story behind the Interfax HP "reissue"? It's supposedly an identical replica in every way, at least according to the sales pitch.
Not even sure if that's a good thing actually, maybe most new clones may actually include some improvements in terms of nose/volume/true bypass/etc...Not to mension the typical diode lift or EQ controls you often get on a boutique clone.

Anyway, it looks the part, wouldn't mind putting something secksy like that on my pedlolboard
Not for roughly twice the going price of a Frederic HP though...Which brings me to my last question: What's it worth?

Cheers.

It's such a simple circuit man. I would never pay huge cash for one in any form honestly. The original didn't have diode lift, and had wonky sliders instead of pots. No thanks. Do a Google image search for harmonic percolator schematic, there's a few different versions of the original at that. I used the George Giblet schematic and added a 3 way toggle for Ge/lift/Si clipping at the end of the circuit. Then I talked with D rock and everything changed even more, but I digress. It's a germanium transistor circuit, some sound way better than others, in a cold room with no humidity etc..

I haven't played a ton of the reproduction units or versions out there, but I've built a few, and I think the more modern takes on the circuit are definitely better. Just my opinion :)

I think there are very few circuits that wouldn't benefit from modern improvements. I feel like at this point, it's a matter of features and aesthetic.

I talked myself out of buying an even anguish because I wasn't entirely sure it was going to be different enough from the one I was playing. But I didn't want it to be TOO different.

So instead I sent the one I was borrowing back and now I'm playing a completely different fuzz. Honestly, the Land Devices one is probably top of my list right now. The Zander one seems cool too, and eliminates the problem of trying to decide between low and high gain sounds.
