last night whilst poking around the internet i stumbled across this clip, which a friend played for me in his living room in Brooklyn when i flew from San Francisco to New York in January 2002 for the Mission of Burma reunion concert. this was played live on the Letterman program six weeks after 9/11, and they play their fucking hearts out. i know it's fashionable to hate on U2 nowadays, but this is fucking brilliant.

I think U2 can be a fucking great band when they put their fucking hearts in it. They don't always do, which is understandable.
The album they recorded as Passengers with Eno is a good example
