All this drum module talk and no one brought up the ALM Akemie's Taiko, the defacto best drum module ever created. Hell it even expands out of drums to just general FM nonsense. I sold my Akemie's Castle due to space constraints, but my Taiko is going to buried with me.

I actually added the dinky taiko after watching an andrew huang vid last week. That and Rings are the two sound modules I'd like to get next.

I've been checking the Sweetwater site regularly. They had a demo in stock yesterday when I checked. That's why I ordered Hopefully there is nothing wrong with it.

Akemie's Taiko is slightly different from the Dinky's. Akemie's is based off the Yamaha FM chip and will produce all your laser and many other drum sounds.

I gotta say the only drum modules that really interest me at all are the ALM ones. But, as I don't have a sequencer module yet that's something I'll look at down the road.

Speaking of drum modules, I got 3 new modules in today, one of them being Noise Engineering's Loquelic Iteritas Percido. Shit's fucking bananas. I need to spend some time with a manual because it's so wild but it's immediately rewarding for drum sounds (metallic, industrial style). I'd love to use it as a standard voice too at some point but I haven't been able to find the sweet spot yet on my own.

The other 2 modules were the Varigate 8+ and the Rossum Morpheus (filter).

Varigate 8 is the new tempo master for my rig. I love it. It works so much better than the Varigate 4 I had for so long, and I really appreciate all the functions it has.

The Morpheus is INSANE. The most powerful filter I have by far and it's just a pleasure to work with. Adding modulation to its CV ins makes magic very quickly. I haven't even touched the internal sequencer yet. (Side note: very impressed with Rossum overall, and I only learned about the brand a week ago. Might be getting more of their stuff...)

Varigate + Voltage Block are sequencing everything. Pitch is quantized and chordified in the Harmonaig, then sent to BIA/Lofi/Morpheus, LIP/Kamieniec, and Dixie/JOVE with the root/third/seventh of each chord. Plonk plays the melody with CV from the monome/Ansible which gets split to the Morphagene which cut it up and is playing grains. Each part goes to the Praga for mixing, and the stereo out goes to Magneto (regular delay mode).

Conclusion: Qu Bit Rhythm/Moffenzeef Mito combo is a lot of fun. Controlling the variation knobs on the Rhythm really adds nice... well, variations. Definitely a lot of HP, but the extra space is nice to get in there and tweak a specific parameter or a general one that effects the entire patch. Also, the pulse width control on the Mito is really fun for triggering VCAs. I am definitely going to be sticking around with modular for awhile.

Once you embrace the notion of a big rack, and choose room and playability over sheer density and feature packing, the Rhythm makes a lot more sense and starts to look good. The BPM display is what really sold me on it, and I like the easy interface, the tweakability of the patterns, and having CV control over every little thing. The mute buttons are also nice for jamming out, on the Rhythm and the Mixology. I think all of their 28 HP line are great modules in their own right, that manage to check all the boxes except 'compact'. Chord and Wave are still on my radar, even though I don't really need either of them.
