Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Five! Wow. I stupidly sold my first Mother 32. I have major gas for a Mother 32/DFAM combo. I'm actually tempted to sell/trade my Sub 37 to fund it, but I know that I will 100% regret that decision.
The euro bug has completely got me again. I've listed my Organelle to fund a few more modules...or maybe a DFAM

I knew about the Easter Egg mode, but I didn't know about the alternate modes either until I saw that posted over on Muffs. I still haven't had a chance to check them out thoughbehndy wrote:also, fuck me i didna know about thr alternative Rings modes. playing with tomorrowwwwwwwwww.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Ordered a Spectrum oscillator and have a DLD incoming this afternoon. Falling off the deep end again
Also having a hard time figuring out my VCA game. In addition to the Natural Gate purely for audio I was looking at Cold Mac + a Quad VCA but I think it might be overkill on space and mixing capabilities (in addition to Maths and a Quadratt). I want to free up 8hp between the two but still want to keep Cold Mac but also want a VCA with bias & attenuator knobs and probably some saturation.... I want too much

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Also, I listened to this podcast the other day which I got some insightful bits of knowledge from:

The thing that resonated with me the most was something James Ciglar said (around 1:20:20) about modules that are multi-function vs. multi-purpose. It's a really interesting point to consider when looking into module selection and building a system. I thought about it again right now because I just checked out the Knight's Gallop for the first time and my initial reaction was "holy shit this thing is amazing" and as I kept watching I thought "man there is so much in here I would never remember"
It is super cool, though.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
I got a Knights Gallop a little while back, it’s pretty cool. I wanted something that can easily make interesting related triggers, and it does it. I had been trying to achieve something similar with Pam’s and a logic module (and an offset/inverted offset from Blinds patched into Pam’s CV1 and 2) for my live show and decided to make my life easier with the Knight’s Gallop. It cut the clutter and actually worked exactly how I wanted. Haven’t used it since though, need to get on that!

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
So I got my Orthogonal Devices ER-101/102 a couple weeks ago. I've been stupidly fucking busy with the rest of life... finishing grad school, getting a job, etc., so I haven't gotten to use it and learn it as much as I'd like. But I've played with it a decent amount the past couple of days. Just the 101. I haven't even touched the 102 except for saving a couple sequences. Enough to realize the 101 can do ANYTHING you want it to. It's impressive, scary, and frustrating trying to catch up to it on the learning curve. There's a lot of what you see is what you get, which is really nice, but there's also a lot of little button combos you need to remember to access features here and there. But, for example, the ability to just split a step in half, and then edit the lengths of both of those steps at once so you're still in time is really really cool and would be really useful for live performing. It's also really challenging in the sense that you have to basically memorize your sequence so when you want to change something, you know where to go. I like that personally, but it's been a real challenge. Anyways, I'll keep you guys updated, but so far it's good.
I should also say it's definitely slowed down the sonic exploration while I try to grapple with melodic things. It's hard to be entirely deliberate creating melodies when I've never done it in quite this fashion. So it's not the best use of a modular, but I think that when I get more up to speed, I'm gonna be able to make some super awesome things.
And here's a couple of simpler examples just from trying to learn... I decided to sequence something simple to start just to get a feel for it, so I went with the Office theme song:

And then this morning I transcribed a guitar riff that I've been playing around with:

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Hooray behdny. I bet youll get on nice w with Erbeverb.
My dfam is ready for pickup at CME. Will have to wait for tomorrow night. Then it’s expansion case assembly times on Monday. Fucking sliding nuts. Debating on what to fill my last 32hp with. I want a big fucker of some kind. Rxmx or similar I think. Maybe the Verbos scan & Pan. Or fuck it all and get two Alters. I’ll have a drink or three and randomly choose this week, unless someone’s got suggestions on weird mixer/pan and effects.
Also those intellijel speaker modules look awesome, but i’d want two for a stereo case.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
hurm. as awesome as it is, i just don't think tactile control modules are really what i'm into right now. going to list my Tetrapad tomorrow over at Muffs. was going to do $250, if any FuzzMod Breaux want it i'd be cool with $220 for ILF Pricin's.
edit - murrrr. going to see how it feels with Plaits and Erbsmezmmmsers first. but if not loving it with them, THEN will probably list.
i think i really want an UltraFold.
how do they sound in the effects loop of a delay?

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
The real question is : how does a delay sound in the external feedback input of an Ultrafold that is in the feedback loop of that delay ?behndy wrote:i think i really want an UltraFold.
