also, FINALLY going to get a Sunday free the same day they do a once a month noisy open mic style no dj sets or songwriter style invited electro thing next Sunday. i really want to do live modular thingy at a place where if it goes totally ass-faced it's not a big deal.

lol. was talking to The GrrL, who has watched me do band stuff at shows, and saying how if it goes very shitty it's easier there than at a club or whatever.

"awwww it won't."

"no. i mean. it could EASILY turn AWFUL. like. super out of key or arhythmic or messy and just noise....."

*head slowly tilting during that last sentence*

"so.... like.... what you USUALLY do HERE....."

"HEY."

my wife is awesome. glad i ended up with someone smarter than me in so many ways.

and her sense of humor constantly killlllls me. i am a lucky, lucky man.

also, since i have so little energy or time after work lately, working on some ideas for live play today and tomorrow. thinking like 2 or 3 complementary patterns saved on the FLXS, a drum beat or two loaded into either the BitBox or Nebulae, then go from unpatched for everything else? too ambitious for a first time live thing?

norns is pretty cool.

MLR is one of the scripts that it comes with and it's one of the coolest samplers I've ever used. 4 tracks, independent controls of speed and direction, and you can pick and choose the loop points of the sample very easily. Once I figure out how to sync this thing, it's going to be even cooler.

I loved using Grid with Ansible because it worked beautifully but Grid is now a permanent slave to norns. Poor Ansible.

mmmmmmm SEXY. i'm still super wary of getting into Monome stuff. really want an Arc at some point though. that's the 3 or 4 knob controlly thing right?

finally sat down and played with the Nebulae 2. it's pretty intuitive. read the manual while the vidja rendered, and i dig how it's laid out.

playing around with Rings and Just Friends through Three Sisters, then a drumbeat from Deluge through Sonveskan and JF/3Sis -

Muse that is good news about Norns and MLR, I have used that in Max and I dig it. I have been wondering if ordering the Norns was a mistake - I dig Monome stuff but am not a programmer. I am sure it will be the same as usual though, smart programmers will make cool stuff for the community.
I ordered one from the second round, I had an alarm for 1pm on my phone but then something happened at work and I couldn’t get onto the Monome site until 1:06pm.

Norns is a lot of fun so far. Some modes are more useful than others, and some really need a manual of some kind to get going, but it feels like a really well thought out interface/design.

Damn, my Teletype is taking its time coming here from Australia...
At least it arrived in Japan yesterday according to the tracking info. Looking forward to some minimal synth/music programming (which should hopefully not feel too much like work but more like coding poetry).

Also, the audio input of Rings is probably the best part of that module. I mean, the rest is superbly designed and easy to use but using something else than the default noise burst as an exciter opens so many sound possibilities.

I've been researching Monome euro stuff more and it seems so enticing (now that I actually understand what they do :lol ). A lot of the concepts that I like from Tempi/Rene/Trigger Riot are all present and expanded upon (albeit in a different direction) with Kria and Orca. I know a dude with a grid integrated in his set up, need to try jamming on that sometime...

Here's a quick jam with Grid and the polysynth included with norns. You can control "earthsea" via grid or any midi controller.

I can't wait for the modular integration. They're already working with Mannequins on a 2hp module which is supposed to connect to norns. Now they're working on some kind of footswitch/pedal integration.

Dang that is sweet!

Finally got an Erbe-Verb. No ragrets.

First show went pretty well. Have my second on Monday, but this time I'm bringing my guitar as well :yay: :yay:

My Teletype finally arrived.

I got it from someone on llllllll so I had higher than usual expectations in terms of packing, attention to details, etc. (people on Lines are basically civilized and it's a very nice thing). Well, the guy forgot to put the power cable in the package, it was basically the module in a couple of bits of bubble wrap and then crumpled and slightly stinky newspapers and the keyboard with no other protection in a box. And the keyboard is not the original one (which is small and minimal) but a basic Logitech one that's far too big. And the guy never told me that. I asked and apparently his rabbit ate his previous two keyboards. Which, well, scares me a bit. Also, I would have preferred if the guy had spent one minute with a wet wipe cleaning the module before sending it instead of me having to do it.

Ugh. When I sent my Folktek Mescaline to Italy I was super careful, packed things very well, told the guy about the Mescaline's idiosyncrasies and added some bonus snacks because everyone loves snacks.

I guess the universe loves asymmetry.

Anyway, at least it's here and it seems to work well. I just need to get another small keyboard for it. I'll start doing the Teletype studies mostly to get used to the workflow (I already studied the docs a bit and know most of the syntax) and then start implementing "teletype patch ideas" I wrote in my notepad :).

awwwww man. that's disappointing. will he refund some to cover getting an original keyboard? do they have a Buyer Seller Rating thread over there to let people know about him?

even with $60 modules i sell, i pack the BUTTS out of them. i would be livid if something that expensive didn't arrive in wonderful condition.

i'm sorry meng.
