After this's all over, I hope the U.S. gov't bills Trump for the damage he's done to our reputation

Re: No politics. Only anti-government sentiments!
So, Manafort has just been convicted on 8 of the 18 counts he was on trial for. The jury deadlocked on the other 10, so the government might re-try him on those after his next trial in DC.
Also, Cohen just pleaded guilty to multiple counts today. Count 8 was the Stormy Daniels case in which Trump was an unnamed co-conspirator.

Hopefully this is the beginning of the end of the most insane presidency ever.

I hear you loud and clear, but it has a much nicer ring to it than "Putin's Puppet" or "President Swamp Monster" or "President Imbecile" or "President Criminal Enterprise" or "President Let's-See-If-I-Can-Make-Myself-Dictator".Chankgeez wrote:… and the beginning of the beginning of the second most insane.

I realize that unlike Trump, Pence is an accomplished politician who knows how to turn the wheels of government. But if the Democrats can take control of at least one chamber of Congress in the midterms, then hopefully Puritan Pence won't be able to inflict too much damage on us. Also, I think Pence would probably mend fences with our allies and end these pointless trade wars.calfzilla wrote:Puritan Pence reporting for duty.

I live in the "purple part" of super red Kansas.
We have lived in our house for almost three years. The people who lived there before us were obviously hard right leaning because we get their junk mail, lots of which are packets outlining issues for conservo-candidates. This season, NONE of them save for Kris Kobach's gubernatorial campaign packet actually mentioned Trump by name. He's poison and they know it, but will sink as low as possible on his ship before abandoning him. They're just using him because he's a rubber stamp Prez who will be gone as soon as his policies cost the GOP midterm elections and majority leverage. They obviously don't care if he fucks porn stars or stomps the toes of our economic allies.

Re: No politics. Only anti-government sentiments!
There is a nation-wide prison strike being implemented now to advocate for prisoners' rights (if you weren't aware, over 800,000 of America's 2.3 million prisoners are forced to labor/generate corporate profits for as little as $0.04 per day, which is absolutely slavery), and not only is the mainstream media not covering it, opting instead for the Trump show, but "liberals" are celebrating publicly how they're going to send 2 more people to prison, and hoping that means Idiot in Chief goes down with them. Not that Manafort or Cohen would *ever* be subjected to the kind of blue collar prison experience that forces labor out of its constituents, but this shit pisses me off to no end. Incarcerated peoples are literally risking their lives and livelihoods to make a stand for their rights, and wardens around the country are placing these dissidents in solitary to stop them from spreading unrest to the general population of their prisons. You can call prisons to help check on organizers and demand reform from the outside if you want to help. Here's their website, hopefully some of you can help put it to good use. https://incarceratedworkers.org/campaig ... trike-2018
Fuck the left, right, and center in this piece of shit country. Fuck the 13th amendment (which ended slavery unless you are convicted of a crime). Fuck corporate profiteering off of prison labor.

I read an article about the prison strike yesterday. Our prison system is most definitely severely fucked up.

I know I certainly am. Why? Because it means that even the rich and powerful can be held accountable by the American justice system. As for the Idiot in Chief specifically, he is in the highest position of trust in the nation. If the evidence proves beyond a reasonable doubt that he is a criminal, then I will throw a fucking party if he is sent to prison.baremountain wrote:..."liberals" are celebrating publicly how they're going to send 2 more people to prison, and hoping that means Idiot in Chief goes down with them.
If you think the prison industry is vile and immoral, consider the fact that Trump now wants to privatize the war in Afghanistan. http://thehill.com/homenews/administrat ... nistan-war
I think we need a Constitutional amendment that says prisons, emergency services, and military operations cannot be privatized. All of those amount to nothing but crony capitalism, and nothing good comes from them.
Consider Governor Rick Scott of Florida. First he wanted legislation requiring all prison inmates in Florida to be drug tested ... wait for it ... by a company he owned controlling interest in. When the FL legislature refused, he had his shares of stock transferred to his wife, and basically said "Look, I don't own it anymore! Can we pass the legislation now?" The legislature refused, but then he got them to pass a law requiring all welfare recipients to be drug tested. His company doesn't take Medicaid, so he tried to have Florida's Medicaid system privatized. The law was eventually declared unconstitutional, but you get the point. The corruption is rampant and needs to stop.

I used to live there, and I have no idea how this guy keeps getting elected. He's hated by pretty much everyone I've every met in both parties, he looks like skeletor trying to wear fake skin, and he completely defrauded Medicaid and should be in prison. Hopefully a fixed prison though since we're on the topic, not that he really deserves it.Lurker13 wrote:Consider Governor Rick Scott of Florida. This is small potatoes in the greater scheme, but y'all heard about the jpay switch (read: scheme) that fucked over a bunch of Florida prisoners?

Re: No politics. Only anti-government sentiments!
Unfortunately far too many people cut off their nose to spite their face. They vote R because their hate towards the democrats/“Clinton Machine” is so severe and misguided that they’d rather elect candidates who are corrupt, immoral, and in many cases evil. That’s the problem we have here in Texas - Beto O’Rourke is a moderate Democrat who is pro-business but also very socially liberal, aka he probably better aligns with most of the state, but because he’s a Dem they’re gonna vote for Ted Cruz even though everyone hates him. It completely boggles my mind.cherler wrote:I used to live there, and I have no idea how this guy keeps getting elected.
