I don't know that streamer but sounds like a wonderful moment for you and your kid!! I wanna play that level and then check out what he says afterwards.codetocontra wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdiTAzX_ltc
Patrick Klepek played a level I made for him, starts about 4:45. Dotter did the art on the postcard, started crying when she saw this video, meant a lot to her to see. Quite touching.
I had some SMM2 success over the weekend, too. A quick level I bashed out in the week got featured in this Kotaku post!
I have also been *LOVING* watching the GSA SMM2 matches. When the clock is running down and two skilled players are tied up, it's absolutely GRIPPING.

Slowly getting hyped for the survival horror game of this gen. Pre-order is in with my local store and now I'm just counting down the days:

That's so cool that people are ending up on SMM streams! I would partake in SMM2 but my wifi downstairs does not like my Switch and I'm not set up upstairs for it so I have to settle with watching BarbarousKing on my lunchbreaks.

i feel this so much lately. i sunk tonnes of hours into Sekiro and then some real life shit went down and since then, my brain hasn't been able to cope with anything more involved than turn-based RPGs. if i can't put the controller down at any moment and not die, i haven't really had the mental energy to play with it. there was the big Celeste expansion and i haven't even looked at it, and i friggin love Celeste. i'm ~60 hours into Octopath Traveller, which is pretty good but a bit of a slog now.GAS KING wrote: I've found that games that are difficult or overly challenging aren't for me.
I play to relax....so dark souls games, open world and PvP/comp game just stress me out.
however, i have managed to commit some time to beating a couple of really tough Mario Maker levels this weekend. the guy that wrote the Scott Pilgrim books has some utterly genius levels but they're tough!

What are people's thoughts on Red Dead Redemption 2? coming to PC soon.

Been thinking about getting that one, but should probably wait until after I finish Dragon Quest XI since I don't have unlimited time. It looks gorgeous, though.MechaGodzilla wrote:i'm ~60 hours into Octopath Traveller, which is pretty good but a bit of a slog now.

Yeah it looked pretty interesting to me. But IDK much about the actual gameplay. 60 hours and not finished sounds like a no from me.

it's quite good at making you change up your play style by forcing you to have different characters in your party based on story events, and you unlock character classes and the way that mechanic works is really innovative and unique. The writing and story also gets much MUCH better as it progresses - it starts out like eight levels of Baby's First JRPG and then gets weirder and deeper. It's not perfect but it is Very Very Good.coldbrightsunlight wrote:Yeah it looked pretty interesting to me. But IDK much about the actual gameplay. 60 hours and not finished sounds like a no from me.
DQ11 is almost definitely better. Unless Octopath pulls out something utterly bonkers and unexpected in the last chunk, it's not gonna top DQ11 for me.Eivind August wrote:Been thinking about getting that one, but should probably wait until after I finish Dragon Quest XI since I don't have unlimited time. I liked it quite a bit. If you liked the first one, you'll like the second one. It's a pretty decent improvement on the first oneGAS KING wrote:What are people's thoughts on Red Dead Redemption 2? coming to PC soon.

OK interesting! I'm willing to put in that much time for a really good game, it's just with the limited amount of time I spend gaming these days, 60 hours is like a year in real time unless I get totally hooked.MechaGodzilla wrote:it's quite good at making you change up your play style by forcing you to have different characters in your party based on story events, and you unlock character classes and the way that mechanic works is really innovative and unique. Oh and it is on Steam now! Might add it to the watch list....

I watched a couple basic reviews and RDR2 comes off as a beautiful looking game with a great story but can be slow or a slog?

It was definitely slower paced than many games, but I never felt like it was a slog. That's definitely my take though. I have heard people complain about the pacingGAS KING wrote:I watched a couple basic reviews and RDR2 comes off as a beautiful looking game with a great story but can be slow or a slog?

well the beauty of the Switch is Octopath is a perfect bedtime game. Just put the Switch to sleep before i... uh, sleep and it just boots back up at the same point next time.coldbrightsunlight wrote:OK interesting! the story is has some great characters and writing but it's very long and the missions are typical Rockstar fare - escort missions, driving around listening to conversations, and then a bunch of shooting. it's not hugely engaging. i would say the very start and very end are the best points in the story, and in the middle it's just a great sandbox to mess about in.GAS KING wrote:I watched a couple basic reviews and RDR2 comes off as a beautiful looking game with a great story but can be slow or a slog?

That does sound lovely but the game is expensive enough without buying an entire console for itMechaGodzilla wrote:well the beauty of the Switch is Octopath is a perfect bedtime game. Re: The Video Game thread
Ah right, thanks for the insight. I might end up getting it at some point then, but not right away. Have the same thing with Xenoblade 2. Quite liked the first one back in the day, but jumping on a 100 hour game still is a bit endearing.MechaGodzilla wrote:it's quite good at making you change up your play style by forcing you to have different characters in your party based on story events, and you unlock character classes and the way that mechanic works is really innovative and unique.
