I just burned it to a CD and am listening again on my drive... the party doesn't stop!
Dandolin... I've listened to that album like 6 times this weekend. THE SOUND are, kind of like MAMALEEK for you, my "where have you been all my life?" band. THANK YOU! You had me at 'not gotten post-punk classic' and I was not disappointed. I have a couple of singles (not full LPs) for you coming up!
EDIT, for Dandolin and other post-punk fanatics (special call out to fans of JAMES CHANCE & THE CONTORTIONS)!!!
This all came from the same DJ Set (http://wfmu.org/playlists/shows/86825), I randomly put on one night (I usually listen to CDs in the car... if I listen to radio in the car, it's always WFMU).
The first track that I heard when I put the set on, I could not find on youtube, so if you click the link above, start with
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYqvQwj-log
THE HIGSONS - 'It Goes Waap' (this is the 7inch which is slightly different than the one played in the DJ Set [the set played, the 12inch]).

THE VISIBLE TARGETS - 'Candid Affection' -> If you like this one, you will probably like some Brazilian Post-Punk I posted ages ago (I would be more than happy to re-post here if you are interested )
Then they played INSTITUTE. They're a newer band. I personally have enjoyed every release they've had (they're on Sacred Bones which is just a given for me).
Woot woot wootenanny!
So Hungry So Angry has been my jam 4evah Big Higsons head too and of course JC/Contortions too
The Visible Targets I have whiffed on (me culpa mea culpa) - really enjoying the sparse angularity of course, and some very fine guitarings all around including supa tasty use of period highlight fx
Off to listen to Institute & make a playlist woohoo!
Oh--also--you know the other great so-nice-they-named-it-twice skeletal groove band of '81ish Liquid Liquid? (of course you do )
NSFW cause I’m quoting an entire chain of Dandolin. I love LIQUID LIQUID. I love no-wave / postpunk in general (LIQUID LIQUID is on so many no-wave comps so I don’t care what people say). I was actually going to post something from DOWNTOWN 81 today... the DNA sets? I didn’t.
I think you will like INSTITUTE. To me it’s a perfect combo of DEAD MOON rock, goth, and post-punk.
This is one those “I have no idea how I found this album but it’s been in my life for years now.”
"SWIPE LEFT ASSHOLE!" -retinal orbita "Whatever ASSHOLE here’s my pedal that makes humpback whale noises and also it has a built in sequencer so stick it in your craw! -retinal orbita "Patty Mullen takes me from a ball peen to a sledge" -The Great Velvet Hammer "...at this exact moment Divine has learned of your jealous scheme from the local town gossip. She also has your address, ASS HOLE!" -Narrator (Mr. J) PINK FLAMINGOS 1 bird per post please
DNA > Arto > Brazilian No-Wave bc of course even if there's no literal connection, the zeitgeist dialed it up....
meanwhile, as into tropicalia and beyond as I have been in addition to my skronkophilia, I can't believe I missed this! but rather than be depressed by my lameness (read a book sometime for chrissakes Dando ), I'm just hyped that I can still be surprised by something new to me, and in the best way...and twice in one summer.
'nother treasure - - THANK YOU $harky!!!
"In a moment of unparalleled genius, Noel Parachute headed off this potential disaster by unplugging the microphone."
Sad to hear about Ric's passing. I listened to the first Cars album about a month ago, first time in an extremely long time. With 2/3 of the album remaining in classic rock rotation for the past 40 years, it's easy to lose sight of how good it actually is. Spinning one of the songs that didn't make the radio cut. The studio version is an amazing piece of production and arrangement and just groovy weirdness. Listen to that, and then check out how well they reproduce it live.
