Anyone a master of the 1u kungfu?? I’m thinking of going down that road and want to make sure I’ve got the gist.

Intellijel vs everyone else? If I base my rail spacing on “standard” 1u measurements - say using something like https://amzn.to/2Nnc68w - I can use both/all types of 1u tiles, right? The Intellijel tiles will only be able to be screwed in on one rail due to their odd/narrow spacing, but I can still use tiles from a variety of manufacturers on the same 84hp row.

I think?

I know I want to pickup some of the Intellijel stuff to replace and upgrade my current I/O/crossfade/fxloop module, might get their noise module as well. But I also want to get the Plum Apex 1u Peaks. Those plus one other change should give me enough room to add the erbe verb :joy: without losing any functionality, moving into a new case, or trying to swap my drone commander for the desktop euro version.

So tldr - standard 1u spacing is wide enough for all tiles, but some tiles (Intelijel) are sometimes too narrow to take up the entire height. Yes?

so, mebbe just me but i thought i would LOVE 1u stuff and i really, REALLY don't. the idea of moving utility/occasional use stuff to a dedicated tiny footprint row APPEALS, but.... i hate using them. super fiddly and options are VERY limited. cool that Plum is finally offering SOME interesting 1u stuff, but. yeah. i dunno.

i'm actually ordering a 12u MDLR case this weekend to switch to.

but yeah. i think you can Ugly Mount Intellijel stuff in STANDARD ORIGINAL FORMAT.

That's what I needed to hear. :)

I totally get why 1U might not be for everyone - don't know if it's for me yet, but I think it might be. For minimal investment I can replace my Doepfer 138d which I'm always using as my output to my mixer with a couple of tiles, and swap my 3u Peaks for the 1u Plum version. And if I swap my current 84hp rails for 94hp, I can take my Rast from this:
My_shit_to_actually_own_eurorackd_-_Eurorack_Modular_System_from_doommeow_on_ModularGrid.jpg
My_shit_to_actually_own_eurorackd_-_Eurorack_Modular_System_from_doommeow_on_ModularGrid.jpg (422.56 KiB) Viewed 2981 times
where I only have two hp left to spare, to this :
My_shit_to_actually_own_eurorackd_94hp_almost_there__copy__-_Eurorack_Modular_System_from_doommeow_on_ModularGrid.jpg
My_shit_to_actually_own_eurorackd_94hp_almost_there__copy__-_Eurorack_Modular_System_from_doommeow_on_ModularGrid.jpg (369.94 KiB) Viewed 2981 times
Room for erbe verb, plus 18 hp of 1u & 3u to play with. Plenty of options to keep me from going nuts and cutting my Rast in half and going to a 12-14U setup... :picard:

Anyway, it's worth the experiment.

Personally, I really like 1U for random utilities that I don't like taking up real rack space. Especially I/O modules. I'm keeping to the Intellijel format because I really like their case and the quality of their modules. I also haven't seen too many others out there that I really love.

I've currently got the Pedal I/O (specifically to interface Mood with modular and synths), Audio I/O (bring either Mono Station or Digitakt into modular for processing and a dedicated output), Quadratt (amazing for mixing CV sources or just straight forward attenuverting signals), and USB power (to power 16n). I also have a Zeroscope that sadly no longer fits, but I am planning on swapping the Audio I/O for one Line In and two Line Outs, which will be essentially the same functionality in less space. I also have to switch my setup so the 1U row is on the bottom; it's really annoying having instrument cables hanging down in front of the modular

oh Jeezits (that's what secular people call Christ Flavored Communion wafers. or what they SHOUL call them.). that's the other thing that bugs the dangle tickle bits off of me. Pulp 1u stuff is always a multiple of 6. most tiles are either 6 or 12. furking Intellijels are..... whatever the fuck size felt good to them that day apparently.

Yeah I get that. I've got like several 16hp, an 8hp, a 22hp and a 28hp from Intellijel

yeahhhhh. that's not okay.

and it's weird. they seem like SUPER NICE PEOPLE at Intellijel. but.... it was kinda.... i dunno. anybody else i'd say it's a dick move trying to make a proprietary format to force people to stay in their brand if you buy their cases.... and. you know. no one else makes 1u loot in Intellijel size, always Pulp.

there's a practical consideration as well. Plum Guy has said there wasn't room to fit the uo_C into Intellijel size, but the screen jussssst fit into Pulp.

lol. Plum Mans hasssss started to make 1u not /6 size hp though. which. ugh.

SOME BITS OF STANDARDIZATION IS GOOD YOU KNOW.

holy butts SWN new update is BOSS.

"I'd like to announce that we've implemented some much-anticipated features in a new firmware version.

-CV/Gate Mode: Designed for use with a CV/Gate keyboard or sequencer, up to 7 channels (6 channels + 1 global).
The CV jacks at the bottom act as gate/trigger inputs to fire each channel's envelope.
Each CV jack converts to a gate jack when the associated channel's 1V/oct jack is patched (and the channel is in CV/Gate mode),
so you can still use the jacks for CV control if you're willing to control less than 6 channels at a time. Also, there is a global CV/Gate
jack pair so you can keep all the CV jacks and just use the entire SWN as a single voice."

helllllo independent sequences/melody lines per channel.

Wot case you got? This one? https://www.mdlrcase.com/product/12104h ... er-series/

One day I'd like to upgrade to something like that --- currently running a Mantis + 2 Make Noise skiffs.

close! the Performer PRO (OOOOO!) version.

https://www.mdlrcase.com/product/12104h ... eries-pro/

lol. i'm not even totally sure on the difference between the two models, but the Pro is what my 7u is, and i adoreeeee it.

yah. i've been using the 7u as All The Loots, then a MN skiff for mixer and effects, have that Generator coming in, seemed silly to have TWO MN skiffers to lug around, and i don't play out often but i DETEST the idea of having to patch to the mixer and controller whilst setting up.

so. trying a 12u from a case builder guy i loooooveeee to have all in one options.

trying this -
