I know exactly how you feel but at the same time it's funny to read that he's "miles from a bonfire". Just wait

That fight is a lot easier if you can summon some online friends, but the tactic that usually helped me win was to run over to the tower with the archer dudes and kill them, then go out and lure the boss, run back to the tower and use the falling attack, like how you kill the asylum boss. Then roll past/through him to get him away from the tower, run back, repeat.

I have also had him leap at me from close range and end up flying off the edge, leading to an easy victory

If you want the game to be manageably easy (or normal mode in most games), specialize in fire magic. That can save a lot of needless frustration.
Also, heavy armor is good in certain situations but try out light armor for a while. Agility is the way to go.

Once you 'get' Souls games, they're really not hard outside of a few spots. You can just run past most enemies to any given boss fight.

typically, as soon as i moaned about a particular boss, i beat it in a couple of tries. i put my sekiro head on and just legged it past all the baddies to the boss and it wasn't too bad. a couple of grunt AIs can randomly hit hard and fast out of nowhere, though. man, fromsoft really know how to make that last sliver of HP count. it's beyond a joke how many times in Sekiro i beat a boss just by the skin of my teeth and looks like Souls ain't no different.

Theres a ladder by the fog gate, you climb up and plunge attack, run down the bridge, and repeat. No shame in spamming in DS

And by the time you start getting to the spots you'll start savouring the difficulty and really enjoying it. Until the Orphan of Kos puts you firmly in your place. Don't cheese though, on NG+ cheese all you want but for the first run it's a much, much more enjoyable and satisfying experience to do it all properly. In NG+ try a Giant Dad/Havel/Anything heavy and Zweihander run, they're super fun and comparatively really easy.

I was just about to post that.

Doesn't say much regarding story, but it looks pretty as hell, that's for sure.

Clearly they didn't take any cues from Boneworks on this.

Yeah this really puts me off and just does not look good to me. I can cope with not seeing your feet when you look down in a first person game but no arms? Weird

I had a bad trip while playing Rayman Legends and haven't played it since, but both of the new games were really, really good.
