way more expensive than I'd ever pay secret sauce studio gear, SOUND LIKE TAPE holy grail blah blah blah
but honestly it seems to sound pretty good in Youtube demos.

Re: The Whatever Thread .. For Gear!!
I keep hitting that link into a background tab to look at later, and yes, I'm distracted right now, but I have to lol at myself, because every time I've opened that tab I've been like "holy shit that price, why am I looking at this again?" Done it like three times, and it finally dawned on me what I'm looking at.
I will listen to the vid though to see what the pixie dust brings...but for that kinda money you've got include, like, an analog frequency shifter as an easter egg to get my serious purchasing interest.

Yeah, I used to watch those.
No longer.
Much rather have an analog frequency shifter at thrice the price.

Starting next month Reverb is raising selling fees from 3,5 to 5%.
I was skeptical about selling stuff here because of all the fees (and semi-hidden fees) i experienced the few times i used it, but now that they are almost doubling their share i guess it's time to definitely say goodbye. Prices were high before this, i guess now they're only going further more up

Agreed! This totally sucks and for me it was the straw that broke the camels back as they say. I was mad about them taking out the paypal option and forcing you to link your bank account. When they did that they made it so your payment can't be processed until you ship your package. I know that might not be a new thing for newer sellers but I wasn't happy about that change. Now these higher selling fees plus all the tax (I know this is not reverbs fault) make it easy to walk away.Dowi wrote:Starting next month Reverb is raising selling fees from 3,5 to 5%.![]()

I'd happily cop the Reverb fee increase if they were directing the extra funds towards fixing their slow, clunky mess of a site, and got rid of 'Reverb Bump' items that are visually indistinguishable from the shit you're trying to search for, but that seems unlikely.
I kind of prefer eBay at this point. At least they run promotions so you can skip out on the ridic final value fees every now and then.

Re: The Whatever Thread .. For Gear!!
No, it's mostly Reverb's fault. Reverb has inserted themselves into our dealings as buyers and sellers, which exceeds their legal obligations. The interpretation of the courts (thanks Gorsuch & RBG) is that sellers doing $100,000 in annual sales (within a state) have an economic presence, even if they don't have a physical presence. That was the original court ruling (overturning Quill), that allowed some states to start collecting sales tax, even though there was no physical point of sale.cantremember wrote:Now these higher selling fees plus all the tax (I know this is not reverbs fault) make it easy to walk away.
Dealers that aren't doing millions in sales should have been unaffected. However, Reverb decided that they couldn't let individuals have an advantage over mega sellers, so they've completely overstepped the bounds of the ruling. Reverb taxes me as a TN resident, even if I buy from Europe. That's bullshit. If I buy directly, or on eBay or Amazon, I'm not taxed for international purchases.
In addition to that, what really pisses me off is that I'm not a mega seller doing anywhere near $100K total, let alone in multiple states. Taxing my customers on Reverb meant that I had to lower my prices, thus resulting in bigger losses. That's fucking ridiculous. You can call Reverb out on this, and they'll just ignore you. (more on that coming on a future date)
After South Dakota vs Wayfair, more states started using the SD ruling to start taxing online transactions. It varies from state-to-state. Rather than implement a complex compliance system, Reverb decided they'd just bypass all that hassle and just start broadly collecting tax on behalf of states, even though their policies went beyond the individual states' legislative measures. In TN, the threshold was $500K for the first year and $100K after that. Also, many states have proclaimed that resale transactions would not be included in tax collections. ---Selling your used gear on Reverb is resale. It's not wholesale or original retail. For Reverb to burden individuals doing $1,000 to $5,000 in annual sales is an absolute joke. That's like ordering you to collect sales tax at a yard sale. When you're reselling used items at a modest clip, you're not required to get a business license or file for a state tax ID.
Some of the blame falls on the courts, because prior to dumbass' arrival on his wave of stupidity, the Supreme Court was not interested in revisiting cases involving states vs online mega retailers. However, it's up to businesses to enforce compliance, and what Reverb has done is motivated by deference to their top earners. They couldn't let individuals make modest, under-the-radar sales, if it meant we could undercut huge retail operations.

EBay and Reverb both charge sales tax for anything. That's capitalism for you - their only concern is covering their ass. They can nibble around the edges and as long as no competitor pops up (unlikely, because who's going to fund an alternative to the behemoths?), no one can do shit about it. It's just like Youtube/Google and their copyright regime - yes, it hurts little guys who aren't actually breaking the law, but there's no value in it for them to be better.

It depends on your state and the merchant. Many resellers are exempt, due to the $100K/200 transactions threshold. I can use eBay & Amazon without paying tax, if the vendor is outside TN & doesn't fall in the $100K/200 threshold.jirodreamsofdank wrote:EBay and Reverb both charge sales tax for anything. If you're based in Kentucky and sell $99K or 199 items to TN customers per year, you don't have to collect and turn over TN sales tax.
As I said before, Reverb's policies go beyond the legal requirements.

Right, I'm not disagreeing they go beyond - I'm saying they don't care and nothing would change it. It's not worth the effort to them to do things the right way for each state and each seller.echorec wrote:jirodreamsofdank wrote:It depends on your state and the merchant. Buyers are their product, sellers are their consumer.
EBay does what Reverb does in most states, with no threshold.

Only one demo of this in existence, a shit one from Soundgas. Three head tape echo where you can vary the volume of each head instead of turning it on and off.
