Yeah I wanna go for less structured stuff. Like I've always wanted something like a VCS3 cause I'm a big fan of hawkwind and the various japanoise guys who had them cause they were big fans of hawkwind. I have done some software messing and I like using befacos "maths" thing for looping a/r's rather than sequencing to get the spacey free-form vibe but thats one module and I would like something more to create rhythms and stuff. Kinda stuck on vco:s too, tried just settling on doepfers vco but only they have alot of offerings making me hestitant on whats right

Good vidret advice. Clock dividers or simple gate sequencers are great for this

personally I've had a modular setup with no sequencer for.... 2 years?

I'm expanding now and at least to start with only getting a simple sequencer rather than any of the crazy stuff. I think other gear is better suited to complex sequencing (I have a digitakt and computer...) and I don't really want to spend ages programming a complex sequence in euro.

the small Malekko sequencer is dope for simple stuff and super versatile. the Varigate 8 plus?

lol. i feel like i don't remember the name of any module anymore.

i DID put together a 6u drums and noise Metron based case that's hellza fun. trying to use a smaller setup with the Pam's/mmMIDI to sync with Live as the main brain/control/save all the things, mix in hardware loots?

we'll see. transitioooooons.

Yeah the varigate 8+ is cool but large, the smaller version the 4+ is very on my radar.

qersty wrote:Pretty ignorant question but do any of you guys modular without sequencers and stuff? I have been wanted to get into modular for like a decade but haven't. Staring to look into stuff more seriously now and I feel most of resources these days are for guys into IDM and stuff who want lots of melodies and complex rhythms instead of fucked up pre-synthesis space noises
Yes.

Listen to vidret & CBS. I pretty much just rely on them whenever it comes to "how shit works" with modular and then plug things into other things and see what happens.

let me know if you have any questions. I could ramble on about it. it has every feature I every wanted, AC or DC coupling, log or linear pots, custom gain ranges,inverting and non-inverting outputs both available. in my opinion it is the ultimate 12HP mixer in eurorack.

it definitely kinda ticks the boxes... One question I have, and I hope this doesn't come across as rude it's not meant to be, is it difficult to turn the pots? They look quite tightly spaced.

you are not rude at all. I completely understand the reasons why it might not be for everyone. I agree that it is tight knob spacing. to get an idea, the module is 12HP. typical 4HP modules have one knob maybe davies 1900H. I definitely can't get my fat finger between the knobs but if I pretend I am giving someone a friendly nipple twist then it works perfectly. they are not loose to turn. they are typical alpha metal shaft RV16. they come greased from the factory so they have that slow sluggish feel to them. they are very sturdy though. no plastic shafts like make noise harvestman etc.. my philosophy is to care for my customers as if that was my own gear.

Yeah they look like decent pots, I have the same kind on an 8hp nano rings if I'm not mistaken - those are spaced 15-20mm apart (centre to centre) and I find them nice to use. What are yours like for spacing?

Definitely looks like quality work either way :thumb:

3HP = 5.08mm*3 = 15.24mm on center
