That and maybe the Tym Mud Fuzz [supposedly a rams head with fixed controls.. but it's really a gated low sustain nasty/grindy sounding thingy].. that are extreme ends of the spectrum interns of control..

I think it comes down to design intent. Mr. McSpunckle took elements of BMP circuit design as a jumping-off point for destinations Brassmasterish and beyond...whereas BTMB have reined all those controls in fairly tightly so that yer twiddling always ends up in the range of a Muff of some sort...in the end I guess I preferred having the rig to shoot for Saturn and take the risk of a face-plant in the asteroid belt rather than sticking safely in orbit around the Pi moon.... :idk:

I mean, I like Muffs all right, but I never felt a urge to find the perfect one :snax:

I don't know if this is any good, but besides it looking cool it has a great description:
I will sell a gorgeous overdrive from Electronics. There are no two knobs from the fader. Does not affect the sound in any way. Nothing rustles. The sound is perfect - viscous and greasy.

IMO, the most un-get-on-withable part of the big muff is the tone stack. Some love it, which is great, but others hate it. Replace it with something more standard and its a whole new world of muff appreciation.
