Looks like the little knob will control the level with nothing patched into the VCA input. And with a CV signal patched into the VCA input, the little knob acts as an attenuator. So you should be able to check it's working simply by turning that knob fully counterclockwise, with nothing patched to the VCA input, which should cut the output to zero. Then try patching stuff into the VCA input, and attenuating that CV with the knob.

Random thoughts. I've been getting a bit tired of the Hertz Donut 3 and been thinking about selling it to try something else? But I also feel like I might be getting stale with it be only using it in the same ways. Might need to try some audio rate patching or maybe self patching?

It's always a good idea to try some different patching methods (especially self patching) for modules that you're getting a little tired or bored with. I remember Emilie from Mutable Instruments posted about this somewhere (don't remember if it was an article or a Muffwiggler thread) explaining different ways people could use Clouds and Rings to explore the modules more deeply

Yeah, one of the things about the HD3 is that it gets noisy and unruly so fast, so trying to reign that in and explore new things is an interesting challenge. It's just unique enough, I feel like it truly needs the effort before I send it on elsewhere. Not sure what I've replace it with though either.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm too focused on making music with eurorack rather than just making sounds... Been looking for inspiration recently. I feel like I have nice ideas for songs, but that gets in the way of exploration. Artist's quandry...

yeah I get into that trap a bit too. For me it settles down when I have a stable setup for a long time? So I'm not thinking about how to use this new module, just what to do with the system.

lol. i mean. grain of salt. i still haven't finished a song in foreverrrrrrr.

but i have felt way more productive/like i can do what i actually mean to by compartmentalizing functionality through devices. the eurorack is a drum machine/werid noises/effects box, hardware synths are either drums specific or melodic specific? helps me choose something that does a part rather than have a huge eurorack trying to do everything possible.

i.... kinda hate the MeloDicer. it's not bad, just not for me. same with the Erica DB01. it's got some STUFF in there, i just don't like how either device gets to it's stuff. i'm so in love with the Meteon that i'm'a try to add Acid Bass to the list of duties the euro is to cover. have a Rare Waves Hydronium hitting early next week, will have this -

i like the Surface a lot, i LOVE the Data Bender.

they'd talked of offering more algorithms for the Surface, i would like that. right now it has 3 that i adore (a Rings style karplus, deeper synthy thing and a sort of electric piano), but have zero need for the bells or drum sounds.

Data Bender is beautiful and angry and so so SO lovely.

No need for the drum sounds because they're not good or just you have so many other drums? My setup is not drum focussed at all but it would be kinda cool having something in there that could do a bit of it.

I'm not the best at writing "songs", but tel me I have to make a 15 min performance and I do that just fine. You say "song" and it makes me think it needs more structure where as I look at a performance as something where I have a couple ideas and I need to figure out a way to get between the two. They're not that dissimilar. But also songs don't have deadlines and performances do.

Anywho, has anyone every used a Small Sounds Big Sounds mini with their synth? Been looking at getting one for a while and sales sales sales. I have a pretty years which is beastly with synth, but stereo distortion is hard lol

The performance/song dichotomy is interesting. I broadly agree, though I'll quite happily slap a name on a recording of a "performance" and call it a "song". terminology is malleable. :idk:

Many years ago I used a mini with one synth. It was nice? Generally I have enjoyed all the SSBS pedals I have tried with synths a lot
