Used correctly they also sound better than most things, imo.

Eh... sort of?

The parts in a circuit are usually a small fraction of the total cost of building a pedal. Enclosures and hardware make up the bulk of what it costs to build something and those are generally consistent between simple pedals and complex pedals. There are exceptions but it doesn't cost much more to make a big muff than it does to make a rangemaster and the big muff has 5 times as many parts. On the flip side, if you want to complete in the rangemaster market people tend to want them built pretty snooty. On par with what LAL did in the Sakura. That can be more of a pain to build than someone 10 times more complex that is just built on a PCB. The main appeal of rangemasters for new builders is they are extremely simple and rather forgiving. You only need one transistor, its gain and leakage doesn't matter all that much relative to multi-transistor designs, and you can build one on vero or turrets or whatever without knowing much about layout.
Yep. The electronic parts in a Rangemaster are ~10% of the total cost. The enclosure, switch, jacks etc are the bulk of it.

Okay, quite right on the component cost. But labor cost is pretty low. If we’re talking people asking for craftsman’s wages for their build time, Schumann did much worse for his part hand wiring PLLs than many builders have done for their build time on Rangemasters.

And no, they don’t sound bad at all.

And it’s gone. Great deal these days. Not on my priority list but I was gonna buy at that price.

Decent price on a Boss RPS-10, which is like a half-rack PS-3 Plus: https://reverb.com/item/39529688-boss-r ... fter-delay

Isn't it rather a PS-2? I'm quite sure about that. Some folks like the PS-2 even more than the PS-3.

It's a curse and a blessing! Sometimes an annoyance when a guy is still too scared to ship a sub 500 fenderoid with the neck off. Like c'mon it is coming off sooner or later...

I was kinda curious about the story on that one. Was it a one off or did dude have that done elsewhere?
