Better is up to you. They are pretty different. BAKLENGS is a reverse delay thing...FABRIKAT is a granular delay. Fab has 16 different modes that are mostly centered around ganular delay and some sampling-ish/delay-ish kind of things. The BAKLENGS gives you delays with octaves up/down ala count to 5 tweety bird sounds. Can you get the same sound out of both pedals??? Maybe a few are different. They both have the other footswitch which lets you hold a buffer to tweak.

For me, BAKLENGS is the masterpiece.

Well I've got a count to five... but I also have the Particle V2 for granular delay... so maybe the answer is get neither? Hmm, my younger self would not like who I've become.

It’s really terrible too see how small the dmm has become

It’s pretty cool though, I can see lots of people going for that in certain situations

I wish you could still get an old DMM for $250-400. Now every single asshole on Reverb is demanding $800 for these, and they're not even the good ones with hardwired power cables and the earlier preamp.

Yeah I regret selling my hardwired big box for what I thought was a real profit back in the day, at merely £200  no foresight there eh :whateva:

I sold my 70s non-Deluxe unit to the studio down the street for $100 (same as I paid) around 2005, when I was burnt out and bored with how vanilla the gear world was. Even with the hundreds of companies that have surfaced since, I would love to have that one back.

Just in terms of character/color, I don't know that any single-head delay sounds better. Maybe in 20 years, my Moogerfoogers' caps will have darkened and they'll unseat the old MMs/DMMs.

If someone wants the DMM sound now in hardware form, the best path might be acquiring a used Starlight (UA). The Nemesis, Echosystem, et cetera sound solid, but no one should be expecting the width and the drift you get from an 80s BBD unit.

Now that BABY Audio's dropped their AI Taip plugin, maybe we'll get an AI-driven BBD emulator. Heh.

Interesting. New one actually seems to sound cool from the demo. 90% of the time I'm not bothered by not having it anymore but then sometimes i get that itch :(

SOUND MODES:

STRETCH This mode records the input signal into a sample buffer, and then plays it back in real-time. Great for glitchy delay effects, random reverse, or freaky feedback.

AIR Grainy, lo-fi reverb effect similar to very early digital and analogue reverberation devices. Early reflections and slow build times make this a unique textural tool.

RING Balanced “ring” modulation effect, adds extra frequencies to the original tone that are mathematically related but not harmonically related. Wild.

CLUBE Math-based cubic distortion and fuzz effect, with tunable resonant filter.

FREQ Frequency shift effect, adds or subtracts a set frequency from the input signal. Like pitch shift but all of the intervals are broken. It’s horrible.

WAVE Time based modulator, used for chorus, vibrato, flanger, and FM effects..

I hear ya, I'm just excited for something I can carry around with me and mess with at work that wont break like the volcas I've tried.

I was looking at grabbing one of the V1's that they put out a while ago and never went for it but now that this one is out maybe now is the time to grab that but the new features on this one sound pretty cool too. IDK I'm a sucker for a cool little samplers

My biggest takeaway from this is that Doug Tuttle sounds like Mr. Mackey.
