I have this amp from the same era. The sound I liked the most was a Sansamp RBI into the power section. But with rack, casters, Furman, and Korg tuner, damn thing weighed over a hundred pounds. Deadlifted to the top of an Ampeg PR-410HLF + Avatar 210neo a few times until my groin told me I had to move on to something lighter. :omg:

Amp has been dead a few years; haven't needed to play with all the circuit boards in there to warrant crackin it open. Good sounds, though.

Switched from the Two Notes CAB M + to the Simplifier.

So, the Two Notes is great, don't get me wrong. But a few main things went into my decision making on this one:

1) For my tastes, the Simplifier sounds a bit better on its own than the Two Notes. I think being all analog just gives it a nicer sound if you're looking to get close to that of a tube amp. That said, I use a preamp in front of both of them to really get a good sound. Without, they're both a bit lacking in Ooomph. That's a technical term.

2) The Simplifier has stereo out, and has a stereo effect loop. Ideally, this is the last thing in my chain before it hits the audio interface/DAW. The Two Notes is not stereo out, so I was having to put my stereo pedals after it. This seemed to be ok with the Empress Reverb and Echosystem, but the Walrus Julianna acted up behind it, I guess not liking coming after a Power amp sim, which makes sense. With the Simplifier, I can put the Stereo Effects in the loop, and then go stereo out with the XLRs direct into my interface.

3) The Two Notes is DEEEEP, with endlessly tweakable parameters. And that's what I found myself doing - endlessly tweaking, not really playing. I thought I would like the option of having a bazillion cabs to choose from, being able to endlessly tweak EQ, Micing, etc. That was fun for a while, but it was apparent that I really just wanted a couple of good sounds, so having too many options became a bit paralyzing. The Simplifier just has three preamp options with basic EQ, three tube options with presence and resonance control, three cab options (tho technically 6, since it's a stereo cab sim - you have 1x12, 2x12 and 4x12 options, and you can mix them - i.e. have a 1x12 one one side and a 4x12 on the other side) and one mic option for both. This sounds like a lot when I type it out, but it's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay less option-packed than the Two Notes.

That's it really. I had previously tried a Strymon Iridium, and it was good, but at the time I didn't feel it was $580 CAD good. I got the Simplifier from a friend, basically brand new for a couple hundred less than that. I would like to try an Iridium again now that I have a bit more experience with amp/cab sims.

That's really good feedback thanks! I totally feel you on the "option paralysis" thing. I would much rather have one or two reliable good sounds than a million options.

 I know myself too well! I have a million options with the two notes plugin and normally use the same (or very close) setting for 75% of my guitar tracks. Something like this but mono would work well for me if I ever reeeaaally needed a DI box.
