you know, it's kind of a shame that Fender never created their own version of the B-Bender, which they obviously would have called the Fender Bender.

The seller of this was upfront about it, made it clear it was definitely a Squier of some kind, and it was the owner before him who hacked the Squier off. They've done a pretty wild job of it too. There is literally a Squier shaped hole

That looks like a good candidate for a painted headstock. Matching the body is the obvious choice, but a white headstock could also be cool. Would match the pickup covers.

I just bought a new one:

It's a Peerless made Epiphone Casino from 1997. I always kinda wanted a Casino for years, especially one of the Korean mades with the neck joint at the 17th fret. I just found out recently there were black ones at all and when I found this one by accident, I couldn't pass. 380€ with a case and a strap was just an amazing deal. First owner, hardly played, excellent condition. Can't wait to bring it to band practice. :joy:

Yes, but I don't think anyone will pay reverb prices for those. Mike & Mike's has a black Peerless listed for 1700$ and frankly - that's just nuts. On kleinanzeigen here in Germany the most expensive Korean Casino is a super rare "Manchester Lightblue" (a stunning metallic blue) at 1000€. Anyway, the cheapest one is a Worn Olive Drab without a case or even a bag listed for 380€ so I was really lucky indeed.
The seller didn't even include the model name in the title or description and had it simply listed as "Epiphone Guitar". He said he much preferred his acoustic guitar, so obviously didn't care. Good for me.

It'll fit right in with my two black Gibson copies:

I had the original case for the LP, too, the black tolex one with golden velvet interieur. Stupidly sold it along with another LP and kept the Gibson case because I thought it was cooler back then. Stupid me. My other electrics are a Vintage (the Wilkinson brand) Flying V (not black), a Partscaster Tele and a Squier Bullet Strat, my first guitar. I might take a family shot when the Casino arrives.

Yellow Telecaster arrived from Japan today :thumb:

I've added some chrome squiggles to my spotty Tele on the left too.

It takes the total to a frankly ridiculous sixteen, but it passes the time ;)

Are the Peerless Epis still holding up as better? I’ve got a couple Chinese made Epis from the past few years that are really excellent, and I’ve had Casinos on the mind, so I gotta wonder.

out of curiosity, do you use any of them differently to the others--tuning, string gauge, pickups--or are they variations on a single theme? not criticizing.

I don't know. A former bandmate of mine had two Korean Casinos and they both were excellent guitars. I only was impulse buying because my drummer told me to go for it…
From what I read on a few forums, the Chinese Casinos were not on par with the Korean quality in the first years but they really stepped up their game in recent years, so… There is certainly a huge amount of internet hype around the Peerless Casinos and they often fetch higher prices, but my guess is that it's mainly based around internet rumours. Differences on the Peerless seem to be a thinner finish, the neck join on the 17th fret and a soundpost under the bridge that prevents feedback a bit. I personally like the Peerless better because I think the neck join at the 17th fret looks much better than the join at the 16th fret, even though the latter would be historically correct. And as far as I know, there are no Chinese ones in a black finish which just looks super rad to me.

i think the korean 90s ones also have a rep for narrow nut widths (historically accurate to mid-late 60s gibson/epis), which normally nobody except me likes! but all the normal sort of guitars that tend to have narrow nuts - mid-late 60s gibson/fender, 80s/90s MIJ, etc. - are currently very expensive!

I think the current nut widths are enough in my zone that I can leave the very narrow ones to their super fans. And I think Epiphone has really taken the thick finish complaints seriously and responded. Based on the LP Classic Worn I have, I’m thinking the Casino Worn models should work for me if the normal ones are too much poly still.
