I got a killer deal on a bass rig today, Sunn Concert Bass and a 2x15 for $200 bucks. I was kind of stoke because I'm like "yeah now I can be loud enough to play with loud drummers and guitars and play some Swans like shit" but as the hours have progressed I start feeling like I've just been hunting for good deals rather that what I want.

I would like to play in a group like that, but really I haven't been that happy playing with people and trying to write songs. When I'm most pleased with my music is me just looping shit in my room and letting it wash over me, or doing "studio" collaborations. I have all these aspirations to be in a band and do cool shit but I think I've idolized that vision of me in a band versus paying attention to myself.

So now I feel like purging all this shit I don't need, big rigs and all these extra instruments and just get some more humble shit & be happy with it. Which would be awesome, but I've gone through these phases before. Purging and collecting and purging again and collecting again... I feel like this is what would be best for me but I can't be 100% sure that's true. I could stash shit away, blah blah.

I don't know. Just gotta figure out how to not get caught up in the thoughts of what could make me happy and focus on what does make me happy.

I haven't been in a band since high school and I've been really happy musically. It's a lot like Zach Hill says in that video where he enjoys music in his purest form playing by himself for himself, and that all the other things don't have to be attached.
(I'm also really lazy and don't work well with others musically)

Hmmm..
I was never happy playing with other people until I met the guys in my current band, but before that I acquired pretty much all the gear I needed to play gigs and stuff which ended up being a really smart move because now I don't have to worry about building a rig that I need at short notice with barely any money.
So, it could just be that you haven't met the right people that make you excited about writing and playing?

I think at the end of the day if the gear you have now does what you need it to do then it's not really worth worrying about whether or not it's overkill. I don't see the point in stashing stuff and not using it at all though, unless you can afford to do so.

I love that viedo.

Hung out with dudes in a band I would potentially sing for. Their music is definitely very busy guitar music, but not quite metal, and could use pedals ;). Also, the drummer wasn't there, so I'm not exactly sure how band dynamics would be. I'm going to try writing lyrics/melodies over the couple rough demoes they gave me. But they seem like cool dudes. Their practice space is on the forth floor of a huge old factory.

Also, I need to learn write vocals over prewritten music. :idk:

This is perhaps Ice Cube's most well-known song and his most successful. The song's music video and the lyrics itself tell the story of how Ice Cube has a good day in South Central Los Angeles. Throughout the song he enjoys playing basketball, having sex, smoking marijuana (significantly, the song is 4:20 in length), getting drunk, going to his friend Short Dog's house to watch Yo! MTV Raps and later win at craps and bones, eating fast food at 2 am, and cruising the streets of South Central undisturbed. He didn't even have to use his AK. [1][2] He even sees the lights on the Goodyear blimp, which Ice Cube says reads "Ice Cube's a Pimp".

it's so much sillier when synopsized.
