Re: the DOOM WORKOUT
Three weeks (10 workouts) into Stronglifts 5x5 and feeling good. Stalled once on press and rows, but back on track. Squats initially sucked bad, but my form has gotten better and I'm pushing pretty well. Grip strength is becoming an issue on the deadlifts. Mixing in pullups, dips, curls and ab work as time allows, sometimes followed by 10 mins. of HIIT bike or treadmill. Workouts are just around 1 hour.
Current numbers:
Squat 185
Bench 200
Overhead Press 110
BB Row 145
Deadlift 250 (1x5)

Nice man, those squat, OHP, and BBR* are close to what I have done in OLY
*Note we do Pendlay Rows but they are pretty close to BBR.
Concerning grip strength you can try working on hook grip to help aid in pull strength.

Re: the DOOM WORKOUT
Thanks Nick. It looks like I've been doing Pendlay rows as well (flat back, bar to the floor each rep). I didn't know that's what they were called.
Great recommendation on the Hook Grip, I've never heard of that and will give it a try for sure. Thanks!
25 reps of squats three times a week is rough. I'd like to get to 200 lbs. and then I might have to drop to 3x3 sets. We'll see.

Hook grip is a bit uncomfortable at first but overtime you get accustomed to the pressure of the bar on the thumb. I was doing 155# pendlay rows in a 5 x 4 last sunday. It was mostly a snatch based workout tho. We did do snatch dead lift but I was using something like 105% of my 1RM snatch so like 165# to practice the first pull for snatch.

Re: the DOOM WORKOUT
I've been doing Stronglifts since Halloween. Every other day without exception. Gonna have to take two days off next week, though, as next week's schedule falls on a Thursday and it's Thanksgiving here in America next Thursday.
The OHP is definitely going to be the first lift I stall on. I'm still feeling good about everything else. I started with the bar on everything but the deadlift(85 lbs.).

Nice work, WIll! I'm really liking it and went as far as downloading their tracking spreadsheet. It's like a personal contest to make it to the gym each time so I can check off that stupid box.
vidret wrote:Harry_Manback wrote:you do mixed grips on the deadlifts though? and take it easy on the bench because if it feels like you're pushing it because it seems waaaay ahead of the rest, focus on getting your OHP up there at around 3/4th's of your bench press to avoid shoulder problems. these are just numbers though, i'm sure you're doing great and i mean nothing by it
Yes, using mixed grip on DL. Your advice is duly noted. I've been working bench for a couple of years so I guess that explains why it's so far ahead. I hadn't done a true squat, deadlift or BB overhead press prior to November 1. All boobs, no legs.

The OHP was the first one that I failed at. I kept trying to add weight and couldnt get past 90lbs on it. So i switch to a seating dumb bell press to switch it up a bit.

Re: the DOOM WORKOUT
Ha ha. Cool, I was wondering if I should try hook grip WITH mix grip, or just one or the other. Deadlifts today so I'll give it a try.
No gloves or straps...I've got a good set of callouses going and I don't want to be "that guy."

Re: the DOOM WORKOUT
For the hook grip what you can do this tape a lower part of your thumb so that you don't blister them when you use hook grip.
I lifted this morning from 7:45 to 9:10 give or take. All snatch work and I was trying to do every pull using hook grip to get used to the feeling. Was pretty good. Tape helped a ton to prevent blistering the thumb skin on my hands.

Re: the DOOM WORKOUT
And I stalled out on the OHP yesterday at 70 lbs.
I hit 3x5 and then 2x4.
Everything is good with the other lifts. Finally got to 100 lbs. on the squat and 135 on the deadlift and still feeling pretty strong with them.
