Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
Has anyone been dealing with trying to find a vocalist on CL lately? It's a freakin wasteland here. Half of every "metal vocalist looking..." ad drop Korn or something as their major influence or they're 17. Almost every band I've been in I either did vocals and played an instrument or hopped on someone else's band who was playing and doing vocals. I don't actually have that much experience seeking out people who exclusively do vocals. Honestly, the few bands I've been in with a dedicated vocalist, they usually were the worst singer in the band.
I have about 4-5 demo tracks ready to go, want to start trying to form them into something resembling a band. I feel like I should just write lyrics and do the vocals myself, but I have zero inspiration for that anymore. That's how I started in bands, as a vocalist (although I could already play bass and guitar), but after writing 100+ songs from my teens through late 20's I'm totally over it and tapped out of ideas/inspiration for writing lyrics. I just wanna focus on the music writing/playing/recording now.

I'm not even there yet. I could play bass or guitar just as easily, though I prefer bass. Finding a drummer is pretty much always seemingly impossible, but I know a few people I could ask a favor of to play if I got something together. Same with guitar, though that's way more crucial for me, since they either have to be very much on the same page as me tone wise or be willing to let me set up their gear. Right now I'm just trying to piece together the only part I'm not already doing by myself. Doing everything myself would be good for getting something started, then it would be a lot easier to find people and flesh things out, let different influences seep in and turn it into a band instead of just solo material. The vocals/lyrics thing is just killing me right now though. I really want to do it myself, but I got nothing.

Ah I gotcha. Yeah we are kind of figuring if we can get a demo done with just the two of us filling the rest of members in will be easier, we'll find out I guess. I'm just bummed we aren't doom lol. Although I have been taking my writing for this project in a more post metal direction lately. Best of luck in your searches

Inspired by the Hex Cabs photos: you could always go the Gentry Densley route and adapt suitable macabre/doomy/obscure/fucked-up poetry.

If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you.

Just writing down tons of random dark poetry could work. Then go back and try to format it into lyrics.
Maybe I should start doing psychedelics. That's responsible with a baby on the way, right?

We were going to be there on June 6th with Red Fang and Big Biz. But Scion decided we weren't.
