Asshats everywhere will move from wearing boat shoes and Vanilla Ice haircuts with wayfarers, to denim vests, gnarl beards and red eye.

Black Pyramid, to me, is a prime example of shit not sounding right vocally. And the very public meltdown their guitarist/singer had, via stonerrocklives.com, just forever turned me off of even wanting to try and like the riffs/tones.

Yeah that guy had a bad time.

I think my favorite heavy vocals, at least as an aesthetic I'd want to emulate, would be Lori from Acid King.

Also, this is all just heavy, usually electric music.

Perfectly stated.

Doom today is like the 60's were for people in the 70's.

Both of these are spot on.

But the genre / scene wars have been going forever and will continue to do so, as music reviewers and promoters will always use labels for what they do. Its almost a necessary evil. The way I look at it, if you give yourself the label, your doing it wrong.

I dig clean, melodic vocals (Pallbearer, Candlemass, etc) and growling/screaming. But generally I cannot get behind gravelly singing vocals. They sound too "bar rock" to me, and just make me think of all the knucklehead borderline nu-metal bands I've had to suffer though. Of course, as a type this a few exceptions come to mind, but none of them are doom bands.

And it used to bother me that doom became a catch all term for any kind of slow heavy music...but I don't really give a shit about that stuff anymore. Go ahead and call Isis a doom band if it makes you happy.
