Don't hold back guys, let it out  fucking unbelievable some of these stories.

Saw Lozen tonight. Those two women are awesome. As in makes me want to practice harder. Hozi's all "does that sound right? I forget what a bass sounds like. No, really!" During the soundcheck. ..... and then proceeds to just rip it to shreds the whole set. Best moment, justine (drummer) is singing this powerfull thing and bass is just rocking out and then hozoji starts singing a harmony about 4 feet from the mic and it's clearly audible and full sounding. She's running a modded meatsmoke through 3 cabs and it's not quiet by any stretch and she can sing over that. Holy fuck. Amazing. Anyone who has seen helms knows she is a tiny woman. Where does it come from?

She also kills on the kit. Helms blew me away when I saw them a few months back with KEN Mode and Russian Circles. Totally stole the show. And I didn't even like the new record that much. Amazing band. Amazing lady.

Dude, is a band came to me with a tale of desperation, I'd probably be the first sucker to lend them my shtuff....but rolling up without instruments even. That is a whole new level of spoont-licker.
I don't mind lending amps (provided I know its my speaker cable they're using and I've personally checked the impedance is all good), but no, you don't get to play my guitar unless I really fucking know you. And even then, you should have bought your own so we can jam together. (I don't like sitting jams out)
Plus, other guitarists have always shot me that look when they do jam with me anyway. You gotta have that awkward conversation.
"Dude, what the fuck are you tuned to?"
"Drop C (When it was that, I'm at A now)...why?"
"I'm in standard, tune up"
"Tell you what, I'll meet you at D standard"
"That's crazy"
"Not really. Besides, you're gonna hafta come down, I can't go up."
"Why not?"
"Lecture time"
So, I don't jam with too many people these days.

It's incredible how often people don't understand proper impedance and they're using regular instrument cables for speaker cables and doing all sorts of shenanigans.

It's not tough for me. I'm a straight up dick about it, I do not loan gear out to anybody except to close friends I know personally and under extreme extreme cases where I am in complete control of what ever of mine is getting used. There's no excuses for showing up to a job unprepared, you do that anywhere else and you get fired. As far as an amp going out at the gig because someone spilled beer on it? I'm sorry but you put a beer on my backlined amp and I'll walk straight up on stage during your song and hand it back to you, and nobody gets near my gear when its off stage. You gotta watch after your shit, or it will go missing and or get damaged.

This literally reminds me of a touring band we played a show with... they didn't bring anything at all. Well merch... but not even guitars. They just would show up to the show and ask whichever band has the gear they liked the most, or had the promoter ask for them. So we show up and it was actually us and our friends in another band we were the opening and closing bands on a 3 band gig. Our friends were asked after they played and the just made up some excuse that they had to get the shit back cause of some reason. No matter, basically they sent one dude off with the gear for the poor bastard to load it all back in to their shed alone... Anyway we were the closer and they come ask us if they could.... ehhhh maybe if we 'switch spots' and they close. so we set up play and announce the show is over cause the touring band didn't bring any gear at all and fuck them for expecting people to bend over backwards to accommodate them. Esp for it being a 'surprise we need some gear to play' type shit. No one in the crowd cared and that was it. We were called dicks and all that and some threats of violence till we stepped off stage and pinned them in the corner and asked them politely to repeat what they were going to do to us and our mothers. Where even the smallest of us in the band outweighed their biggest guy by 50lbs. So they bitched out and left quickly in the compact kia they showed up in. :picard:

This sounds like a couple of bands I've played with on tour... Especially as someone who books punk and hardcore shows, it's all too common on our side of things. I routinely get kids asking me (the promoter) to bring my bass rig because "our 810 doesn't fit in the car" or asking to gear share for quicker load in/outs.

That EXACT thing happened to us in Boston. So fucked up that the band on tour is asked to provide shit for bands in their hometown. I understand if something breaks or if you plan on sharing cabs with another band you know / trust / are doing a few shows with. But we were straight up asked to borrow gear because the local opener said their bass cab took "four people to move." I wish I was making that up.

I you can't/won't do the work, stay home or buy a ticket and stand on front of the bands. Don't think you belong on the stage. My hats off to you touring guys, especially the ones with large rigs. I'm damn near couchbound after a show. hell it's tuesday morning and I'm still in pain from Saturday Due to my various physical failures. I love doing it so it's worth it to me but I don't know if I could handle every night.

She's one of those musicians that makes me want to practice twice as much. Makes it look effortless and the passion for what she is doing is obvious. Some countries have something called "living national treasures" where they bestow the title on someone who preserves culture or exemplifys an art form. We could benefit from that concept here and she'd totally get my vote.

I've never understood it because I've always had a much different tone from every other band I play with. I've never understood being able to show up, use whatever amp is available, and go. I'd rather have my rig at whatever inconvenience that may be.

I remember the facebook thread... those guys were absolute morons and dicks. Fuck them.

I was gonna pull that cab pic from the thread but it seems to have disappeared from your facebook.... :mope:

It was some piece of shit 4x12 2x15 cab bigger than 2 8x10's stacked sideways that was custom built for a queensrych tour or some shit. It was hideous, huge, and probably sounded like complete ass which is why queensrych decided not to use it forcing the builder to sell it off cheap.
