Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
Question for the doombros who are good at buildin' stuff. I got a hardshell briefcase at a pawn shop for cheap with the intent on turning it into a pedalboard/case. I figure that since it seems pretty sturdy, I can just put velco down on the inside bottom and then just add pedals and a power supply. Is this a good idea or should I really install a piece of wood or something? I am not very handy so I figure if I can pull this off with just some velcro then I got myself a cheap grab and go solution, despite the fact that I have nowhere to take it

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
Krosis I'd have to see the briefcase itself but you probably get away without the wood.
conk.. don't know... not digging the face just seems so much less detail and I know that's the purpose but I personally don't like it.
Fuck right Van. Hollis is the coolest fucker in nola.

Maybe it's the picture but the finish looks really thick and kinda plastic-like.

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
Wanna chime in with my experience seeing Thou and The Body last night.
Lots of local stuff opening before hand which I skipped. Don't usually like to be that guy but the local scene is feeling a bit stale lately. I thought eating lentil tacos with my wife before the show was a better option. I was probably right. I don't know. But her lentil tacos were fucking divine.
Setup was as follows. Guitarist with 4x12 and Beta Lead. Played with an RV3 and a RAT. Guitarist with 4x12 and KVLT 5150 Homie had a delay pedal I think, Boss. He didn't have a pedalboard so I couldn't gaze at it. Those were the dudes from Thou. Bassist was just running an Ampeg SVT 4 Pro and matching 8x10 and a Boss OD. Hombre on guitar from The Body played out of this enormous Gretsch guitar running through ten thousand weird things. Not actually that many but whatever. He was running it through an oscillator. He said to me, "I didn't want my guitar to sound like a guitar. Just farts." The amount of low-end coming out of his rig was fucking punishing. Whiskey would have been proud.
Bolded to draw Whiskey's attention, I know he'll appreciate it.
Dual drummers. Sort of the Kylesa vibe. Occasionally accenting one another but often playing the same part. In this case it might work better than Kylesa based on the drone and sludge that this combo gives us.
All in all the set was enjoyable. The room and lack of microphones made it hard to sometimes distinguish guitar parts based on the low end pummeling my ears and chest. I'm glad I went because it was an awesome experience but it was more of an experience than it was an awesome live set. That's maybe not fair... Musically it was awesome but the over powering of the low end was distracting at times. We were in a pretty small space and I'm sure that had some effect on it.
If you have the opportunity you should definitely go check this tour out. I think it was an excellent time. I took my buddy who is the type of fan that FFOM works on and he was very into it. I also drug him along to Holly Hunt and he enjoyed that, too, so I guess his tastes are expanding. Need to get him into the Doom Room.
