I lived in Vermont for a while. It is unnecessarily hot there in the summer.

I was getting real sick of it. If it's even upper 70s I'm :grumpy:

Whereabouts in VT did you live?

I lived in Burlington for a while and then the Mad River Valley for a year and change after that.

But in Burlington it's worth it.

archlilim wrote:On the FZ I scaled the gain back to just past noon and maxed the volume. Before I had volume at about 2 o'clock and gain at 3. Huge dif. Lot more tone up the middle without that annoying octave thing the FZ-2 does when the gain is dimed (depending on the eq). I run fuzz pretty much straight into my Beta Bass, which has some of the on board gain in play, giving the mids a kinda crackling, fiery texture which I loooove (love that amp so much). Doesn't quite sound like the classic E-Wiz FZ thing, which I'm okay with, but still very obviously that pedal. Thinking about adding more of the amp-side gain and seeing what I can find.

I really liked the BF-FZ combo on my Orange, but tbh my Beta doesn't love the BF for high gain stuff. That pedal can kinda do anything though as it turns out so I been using it for more subtle single note stuff and pushing it with my BM. I'll be interested to hear how that setup plays with the AOR. The FZ seems to work well with anything.

Cool man. Yeah, I'm finding I'm in EW territory without totally sounding like them, which is cool. I'm planning on using the FZ as part of a stereo setup so my sound won't be totally reliant on it, but it will be in there.
I actually really dig octave thing, but I don't dial it in to maximize it as it doesn't play well with power chords in drop A. I have it set so that it's nice and chunky on the low stuff and if I move up the neck to play leads or single note shit it's quite prominent and sounds gnarl. (treble at about ten and bass at two or three I think, bf with bass at two, treble at two thirty and fac on the third).

SLK, I'm a fucking reptile two. I have no problem dealing with summer, but if you're like me, born and raised in the heat and humidity it's kinda hard to get used to anything else. I laugh my arse off at people who piss and moan in summer when it gets to like 36c and 90% humidity here, cause I have little to no hassle getting around in that.
I love the idea of a real winter with snow and shit, but only because it is completely alien and novelty to me. I'm sure e reality of living in it would piss me the fuck off.

HoF fucking killed it last night. Out of all the times I've seen them, that was the tightest and most punishing. And they played fucking Baghdad! :yay: made me happy as a pig in shit.
It was pretty funny seeing all the new hof fans get really confused when they busted it out though. "what's this? It isn't trashy and fast? What's with these crazy changes in groove? I have no idea how to headbang to this."
Cue me, screaming, "CELESTIAL KING WALKS WATER!"
Air guitar.
Pike had one of those new mxr dual phase 90 dealys, sounded fucking cool.
Also rolling a memory toy, bogner ecstasy pedal, custom comp, and destroyer.

Next up, Neurosis! :!!!:

Ehhh, Burlington's cool for short periods of time. Not a ton to do there. Living there for 7 years then moving west to a big city definitely informs my perspective though  I do miss the tiny (but passionate) experimental/noisy/heavy music scene in Burlington from time to time though.

Yeah, it's kinda hard not to at least evoke EW with that pedal  I've been thinking about the stereo route, but I really love my bassists' tone (honestly one of the best doom bass tones I've ever heard, no hyperbole) and don't want to complicate things. Not yet at least. I actually have the FZ's treble on zero  and bass around 3 o'clock. The octave thing can definitely work if you can find the sweet spot, I just like when the low mids on that thing shine through  It's weird though, I cannot get it to sound good with leads high on the neck without kicking on another pedal to tame the highs a bit. My setup is weird. I'm cool with it though.

I went to UVM and miss Burlington even more than I miss college. It's the place where I want to retire. Living in a huge city or even one like Nashville is great for me but not forever.

Yea I like the idea of winter as in a concept. I've been out of state during the winter for work like in North Carolina and seeing white shit fall from the sky makes me angry. it's always just shitty. Also vacationed in TN one year around Xmas. Fuck that cold bullshit snow as well. I had enough of that. If I ever live in some area where it snows or gets cold it's because I'm rich bought a ton of land and built me a compound that once winter falls I don't ever step outside my house for anything ever.

Arch: yeah man if you have to kill the treble on it, then you have to kill it. Those highs can be awful under the wrong circumstances. There are plenty of sweet spots on there, which I dig. Sometimes it's nice to have to wrestle with a pedal to carve out a place you like.

I am still a sucker for one know wonders though. sometimes turning knobs is just too intellectually demanding.

SLK: yes. Bunker down for nuclear winter.

Yeah, but unnecessarily hot in the summer = doom.
Snow on the ground all winter = doom.
Mud season = doom.
Vermont = doom.

Vermont's a doom wonderland.

I have a friend that lives in Vermont. Played in probably one of the only brutal death metal bands there.. but it seemed like all he ever talked about outside of music is the ice and snow and how he pretty much had 2 months of summer/spring. He has snow up into May and I was just floored how someone can just.. accept that I guess.

The reason that everyone is talking about winter today is because Johnny Winter died earlier today while on tour in Europe. It's the Winter spirit in the air.

It's a pretty big bummer for me, I am a huge fan of his music through the years, in my opinion one of the best blues players of all time standard tuning and slide. I've spent lots of time figuring out his guitar licks over the years.

Here's a video from back when he was 25 years old playing an unusual, for him, 12 string Jazzmaster strung up with 6 strings instead of the Thunderbirds he usually played later on.

Yeah dude, that's the whole point -- winter is tits, and warm weather can piss off. This is why I live in cold places and bitch when they get mild. Humidity blooowwwwws.

Also, I agree re: Burlington. I could very happily never live there again.
