fake, white privilege outrage.
I really think people puff up to feel better about themselves or to quiet some sort of vague guilt that they feel for secretly being a piece of shit.
Wes Mantooth wrote:This is right on. Kind of how white privilege in the media works, puff up the stories that really don't have a positive social or economic impact and ignore the serious issues people in oppressed communities. People don't want to have to give up economic and social benefits for a cause but they're sure fine posting on the internet about how a mascot is racist. And it is, but there's more important issues at hand. I will never understand the tradition argument though, tradition is one of humanities dumbest constructs.
These things. Caring and feigning outrage about stupid inconsequential bullshit lets people hide from the fact that they are not really doing anything that makes a difference or helping others. Sure, the stuff people get worked up over (like the Redskins) are sometimes really valid points, but it's usually the wrong thing to get worked up about. It's easy to care about that kind of stuff and post about it on the internet and bitch about it in public, but it requires nothing more than that. Actually changing something or doing some good would take time, effort, work, money, real altruism. It's basically the masturbation of caring - it makes you feel good and requires the least effort possible.

Also, as far as sports mascots go-- the Redskins should absolutely change the name of the franchise.
Thirdly -- Sonny's always been cool to me. As has Christian. Not everyone gets along all the time. So it goes. New Sleep Single.
Love me some Kurt Vonnegut
