That Laney is fucking dope. Siiiiick score.

Picked up a Whetstone from B/S/T recently. Feeling very stoked about that.

I've been in talks with the guy who I've been jamming with recently. We've both been writing guitar parts but we haven't been able to find anybody to play with us. Lots of talk of going in to a two piece with him moving to drums but I'm just not sure that I'm into the idea. I feel like Octave pedals just don't even get close to filling the same sonic spectrum that a bassist fills. Of course I could just play at bludgeoning volumes -- just not sure that it'll fill the low end. Additionally his guitar parts compliment so well that it seems shameful to try to do this.... grrrrrr..... need to find reliable band members who worship amps, have cars and steady jobs and aren't worth less than a broke dick.

The way a rangemaster works, its a passive HPF into a flat gain stage so it cuts lows then boosts the remaining signal equally at all frequencies.

You can of course build a active gain stage using something like an op amp that will only boosts the high end without altering the low end.

Of course, do they sound any different doing it one way or the other, thats up to you to decide

In my very limited day of experience with the NV it sounds like it is adding treble at a narrow frequency but is leaving the low end alone. And the "heat" knob adds a touch of overdrive.

It is not like a fixed wah although there are touches of that kind of thing in the tone. It's more subtle though.

I played with my Elements a bit and with a short amount of time A/Bing here's the settings to kind of simulate the sound of the Naga Viper's boost (keep in mind that the Elements adds more of a treble/octave fuzz singing touch that is less wah like than the rangemaster type boost):

Gain: 9 o'clock
Volume: max
Blend/mix: max
gain switch: low
clipping: low
bass cut: off
mid freq: middle
bass 12 o'clock
mid: max
treble: 3 o'clock

One of you switch to bass vi, and get a drum machine.

I need doom room expertise. I have been thinking this over for a while and I think I'm ready to sell my Soldano Hotrod 100+ and live in road case. Only problem is that I don't know what they go for on the used market. What do you guys think? I paid 2500 for it and 250 for the road case. The head is dead mint since its been in the case. Tubes are fairly new with low hours on them. I wan a press some vinyl so this would certainly help fund it.

The bass VI definitely crossed my mind.

Having played with a drum machine/computer for several years I can assure you that it kind of sucks.

I'd rather go for the Iron Lung vibe.

There's one on ebay right now for $1850 shipped with no roadcase... and it looks to have been there a while and it only has 6 watchers. Looks like your used market prices where it would sell at are $1500-1750. Whether thats worth it to you or not I dunno. I kinda think I'd rather keep it at that price.

It is not like a fixed wah although there are touches of that kind of thing in the tone. It's more subtle though.

The NV adds 2 different mods into the basic RM circuit, Heat adjusts the actual gain of the BJT gain stage and Range adjusts the input HPF to allow for more low end into the circuit. In the original RM circuit the gain of the circuit is maxed for the particular biasing scheme. The Boost control on either a regular RM or the NV just controls the output amplitude (like a volume pot). Those 2 particular mods are not wholly unique to the NV. I also believe the NV is not using a PNP Ge Q but rather a 2n2222a a fairly common NPN Si Transistor.

Still has the same basic idea of cutting lows using a passive HPF then boosting all frequencies equally. Even with the Heat knob down or up its always boosting the frequencies equally with the gain stage, the tone shaping is being done using the Range control. At max range it cuts a lot less lows so its allowing a bunch more low end in. Never built a NPN Si RM type circuit but its a good compromise compared to finding a good PNP Ge Q which has low leakage and HFE from 100-200

A really nice idea to build in the future would be some kind of "All boost" like a pedal that had a bunch of different types of boosters all in the same package selectable via a rotary switch with a universal Boost control (and maybe a few other ideas as well). There are a large number of different gain stages you could use for a single stage booster such as:

Inverting/Non-Inverting Op Amp
Mu Amp using JFETs
Gate Biased FET (AMZ Mosfet Boost)
RM (Ge PNP BJT)
LPB (NPN Si BJT)
SHO (MOSFET with another biasing scheme)

Yeah, I want to keep it but then I realize that i never use it (although we are hitting the studio to start recording a full length in Sept so i would use it then on doubletracking). I just hate having it sit there. I know I'm not gonna get anywhere close to the money I have in it and I'm cool with that. i just have no idea what I should list it at. $1500 - $1750 range sounds about right though.

As much as I need the money to press some rekkids, I'd trade it for another Matamp or Model T in a heartbeat.

I can totally understand that feeling bro. If your cool with $1500-1750 you shouldn't have too much of an issue selling or trading it. I'd definitely like to see you running dual Matamps though.
