CtS fucking blows balls. Primate's record was good, though, and that came out at about the same time.

Came out in may. Listening for the first time. Digging.

I think we can all agree that Mastodon are polarizing as fuck and are great fun to bitch about. :p

Quite. I can get behind the fact that they legitimately worked themselves up into a level of success that I don't think anyone expected when they first started to catch ears, but that's about it.

Still going to see them. Will still stay for their entire set. Will undoubtedly bitch about how much better they were 10 years ago.

Yeah, same. Don't hate them. Those early records, and Crack the Skye too, will still be listened to and I'll love them as their own achievements, but I didn't even know the new album was out for almost three months already. That's how little I care about them these days. They toured recently here in Ireland and normally I would have begged, borrowed and stole to see them, but I'm not spending €120+ (that's what it costs for me since I don't live in Dublin) for an hour and a half of average music. I saw them support Metallica and they weren't impressive, but outdoor festivals are a different experience and I can imagine it wasn't really their usual kind of place to play.

I know they're a completely different genre, but I feel the same way about Placebo. That band was a HUGE deal for me when I was younger, just like Mastodon, and I still love their earlier records. But their last two releases were poor, both critically and from a long-time fan's perspective. I don't like the newer direction Deftones have taken, but they lost a key member of their writing ensemble, so I can understand that. Plus, their newer work is still thematically and musically a success. Diamond Eyes is my least favourite of theirs, but it's solid record that I'd happily listen to any day. Structurally it's sound. It's just not what I remember the band triumphing as.

So the key to artistic integrity is to produce works that only a handful of weirdos on an obscure fuzz pedal forum can enjoy?
Got it :thumb:

FTFY.

Om is going to be awesome. I might end up having to make the drive and see them on back to back nights.

Anyone run a tubescreamer before their fuzz? Any tips/tricks?

I would kill to see OM!
Also, running an OD before fuzz is all about experimentation.
I would recommend playing around with the volume / gain on both of those AND the preamp on your amp.
These all interact heavily and will greatly affect your final sound.

I got leviathan it was def way simplified so really hearing how everyone is hating this "new" direction... I hear that album with just cleaner vocals.

and with that I went on and won this:

for 77 bucks... also it was the one on reverb for 599. I know it was because it's the exact same pics. no one else would set up an amp on a crate with some burlap like it's some farmsex photoshoot.

You. You're dead to me.

Snazzy amp though :animal:

This. I still wouldn't want to listen to it, but so much better than shit like Five Finger Death Punch. How those fucks are famous I have no idea. I mean, has anyone heard their cover of House of the Rising Sun? It makes me want to kill everyone.

I roll with 'spensive beer and cheap ass bourbon. Like a true Southern gentlemen. I still has no amp monies though

Yep. Leviathan Mastodon is best Mastodon.

I have an LTD that has always been in front of fuzz. Works well with muffs - takes out some of the woof, adds some mids, and brings the heavies.

Sorry, it was just a huge let down to me. The only reason I got into Mastodon when they released that first ep on Relapse was because Brann Dailor and Bill Kelliher's work in Today is the Day and Lethargy. So I wanted crazy drumming and interesting technical guitar. Leviathan lacked both. it was a rock record and I didn't care for it. I'm glad I got to see them like 3 times while they were touring on Remission cause they pulled one or two tracks from the ep live as well in tiny clubs.

And even then I never found them to be a hugely special band with any real investment in them. I'm honestly surprised at how big they got.

100watt SS. supposed to be nice and crunchy. All the sound samples I heard on youtube were all in the sorta rock varity. I could kinda tell it could be smashing based on what it sounded like with the bedroom duders barely turning the volume on.

For some reason I thought it was a tube head. I have no idea why. :idk:

Don't know much else aside from that. it was cheap and I like boat anchors.
