This is the parts of Meshuggah's discography that I really enjoy.

It always comes around to whores and poop, doesn't it.

My Wife still hates my Whores shirt. I wear it anyways. Bring on the divorce!

The best Meshugga thing I ever saw was a mash up with lady gaga. I think it got pulled from youbutholetube. I couldn't find it last time I looked. It ounded like someone really put some effort into it. Could have been composed that way to begin with.

Same here. Demiurge is definitely one of my favorite songs by them.

I think they are just there for aesthetics and playing like it's a grandpa's guitar :idk:

Please do that.

Pretty much.

And my wife has moved past her dislike of mah Whores. shirts. She doesn't even notice the muertos skull one, and when I wear the OG grey/blue ink shirt she just kinda shakes her head and mutters something like 'of course you know people who have a band called Whores.' The funny part to me is I'm a super clean cut manchild.

It's a great shirt. Doesn't quite dethrone my Black Face tee as far as articles of clothing I really have to think about wearing in public, but it's close.

Isn't that partly how Doom and Sludge came about? Slow and fuzzy vs fast and tight. :idk:

edit: In fact, that's the way we often categorize genres in general. We associate guitar music with its affiliate guitar and tone. Death Metal is synonymous with Boss and Mesa/Boogie, just as country is with a Tele and a Twin.

I kinda agree and disagree...i think genres also are defined by the 'scenes' rather than the music itself which is more about the people that play the music and the fans and their way of life or outlook on life and music...its a combination of a bunch of things that define a genre. Thats my view anyway... :idk:

Dan: Yes and no.... There are the sleep Matamp fanboys of course but just the fact that you can split the genre in to Doom and Sludge all ready offers a difference from Djent. Djent to me is like all the sleep fanboys creating their very own genre which they create a mold for and never break from. But its not just tone its the playing style too that they mimic.

Sam: I concur. There is more to a genre than just the music, but they seemed to create a stereotype and try to fit hard into it. It seems either all in or all out.

Iommic Pope wrote:I'm still catching up a bit after being sick at the start of the week, but that new whores track was badass.
The other thing I failed to mention before was how poon SLKs new 8 string looks. Fucking sweet dude.

I'll defend Meshuggah. I really don't give a shit if people don't think they arent doom enough or that whole " fuck djent" thing, whatever. They're a fucking awesome band that makes fucking awesome, heavy music. They're great live.
I know there are some other peeps in here that feel the same way about heavy stuff. Tempo is just a thing. Feels is where it's at.
Carnivorous, screaming, ambient dental drill, machine metal gets my feels.
Skip is right though, it's kinda stupid a whole bunch of bands sprung up around them.
Also, skip, get that ibanez. I posted one of the icemen Meshuggah had made for them a while back. On the page it was linked to there were a heap of their other customs from ibanez and a Swedish builder. Some very rad stuff on there indeed. All beautiful guitars with that same very simple aesthetic. Another reason I like those guys. They don't fuck around with shiht that looks flashy or "metal". They just punish.
Just google Meshuggah guitars skip and you should find it. (maybe you could get a Swedish custom built :poke: ?)

Ryry, on the subject of machines making art, you should incorporate some of your power tools in the dungeon into some dangers field stuff.

Dude they do have some sick guitars, I'd love one of their iceman 8's but they are complete custom shops and impossible to get ahold of. They make a Japan custom shop version of the one I posted that is neck through and truly identical to the ones they actually use but it costs literally 8 grand..... I'll check out the swedebeast's here shortly.

Yeah Djent is a very specific style so I see what you mean here. Which is why I only listen to Meshuggah when it comes to djent, why fuck with anything but the best? :idk:

Anytime I listen to someone else from the genre I just view them as a worse version of Meshuggah.

Oh, cool. I don't know much about Death Metal, to be honest.

I would love to have one, but it really will not go down well with my family.

It's true that, in general, Djentleman WANT to be associated with a certain sect or group of musicians that all use Axe-FX, tubescreamers and Blackmachines, while Doom, Sludge, Stoner, they just play whatever makes them happy—except the few fanbois, like you say. But Djent is a sub-genre of Progressive Metal. It isn't really a genre at all. It's more of a sub-culture than anything, focusing on specific guitar-related details. Dillinger Escape Plan sound nothing like Periphery or Animals As Leaders, but there are definite crossovers, and the origins are similar. The endless over-edited videos of people playing 7 and 8-string guitars with super tight Axe-FX patches is ridiculous. They all sound the same to me. But so do many Black Metal bands. That's because I don't know the genre well and cannot distinguish between the differences. Maybe those who play and live the lifestyle, so to speak, of 'Djent' and modern versions of technical metal can distinguish between Periphery and Animals As Leaders and Protest The Hero. I think those three bands sound very distinct, yet they're all considered 'Djent'.

Funnily enough, I don't consider Meshuggah to be Djent. They're Progressive Metal through and through. They are that because they 'progressed' the genre of metal to new heights.

Damn maybe I missed an album release or something but who considers Protest the Hero djent? I definitely don't. I am going to listen to them now and maybe reassess though.

People consider PtH Djent because their guitars 'djent'.
